Wallabies side to play Springboks in Perth announced

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies side for Saturday night’s Rugby Championship Test against the Springboks in Perth has been announced.

The team features some new faces and returns for Wallaby veterans.

On debut will be Queensland Red Dominic Shipperley, who has featured for Australia in Schools, U20s, and Sevens.

Shipperley replaces Drew Mitchell, who continued his poor run of luck with injuries, suffering an ankle issue against the All Blacks in the last game.

Evergreen forward Radike Samo will make his first start for the Wallabies in the Rugby Championship, with hooker Stephen Moore set to most capped hooker in Australian Test history, taking the field for Test number 73 for Australia.

Versatile back Adam Ashley-Cooper has reverted to centre for the 30th time in his now 69-Test career, replacing Rob Horne – who has been dropped completely – while Kurtley Beale is also back in the starting line-up, returning to fullback after he played from the bench.

Scott Higginbotham is on the bench for the Australians along with Tatafu Polota Nau who has overcome a corked backside which ruled him out of the All Blacks Test at Eden Park.

Mike Harris adds a backup goalkicker to the side, also returning to the Wallabies bench after playing Brisbane club rugby last weekend.

This will be the 78th meeting between Australia and South Africa at all venues. Australia has won 32 and South Africa 44, while one match has been drawn.

It is the seventh Test between Australia and South Africa in Perth. The score card currently sits in South Africa’s favour – three wins to two – with the 2001 match drawn.

The Wallabies team to play South Africa in The Rugby Championship and Mandela Challenge Plate Test at Paterson’s Stadium in Perth (kick-off: 6pm AWST, 8pm AEST) is:

15. Kurtley Beale (Melbourne Rebels)
14. Dominic Shipperley (Queensland Reds)

Do you sit by your computer waiting for KPM to make comments just so you can sneer at them? Is it anymore bizarre to say he was outstanding (which is what most commentators/journos also stated after the 2nd bledisloe) than it is to say he was acceptable for only 20 minutes?

as opposed to 22-0? It is a complete fallacy that those NOT selected are useless and will get whipped. Are you seriously telling me that Morahan, Mowen, Harris, Holmes and Cummins are useless? Sheesh give me a break. Half the problem with the Wallabies (and the Waratahs) is between the ears. They have a sense of entitlement. The need a kick up the bum. Beale has been less than useless. Robinsons attitude stinks. Barnes is struggling. AAC is not the player he was, or what some people still think he is. Samo doesnt even start for Reds, doesnt shove.

wether he's from Port Macquarie or not, he's now a local. When he plays for the Force, he always gets a massive cheer. Can you imagine the reaction from the crowd when one of our favourite locals runs out on the field? I agree, he's not good enough to start atm, give him another season at the Force, BUT he should be on the bench. Why is Beale still there? There should be no 'benefit of the doubt', he is not fit enough at the moment. Too much drinking and partying going on, you have your later years to do this. Play rugby well while you still can! I don't agree with Dave Dennis being on the field either, I wish Wykes was fit enough to play. He is Sharpe's understudy and a damn fine lock!

You mean Slipper, the players player of the year, mick-e ? So much worse than telly tubby Dunning HA!!! You're accusing others of reds only bias when your own NSW-centric anti reds feelings don't make you objective.

It is what it is Football. The starting backline for the SR Final, for example, plays its provincial rugby in Waikato, Manawatu, Manawatu, Canterbury (kinda), Hawke's Bay, Counties Manukau and Southland. Don't despair though - if you want to see some fantastic, skilful, tribally local rugby the ITM Cup is on right now!

Turn it up mick-e. That's as bad as Spiro's inference on Saturday that those that don't like Deans are simply Xenophobes. Barnes isn't the same player and I agree with Bison and have said the same thing myself here a number of times. His brain has been rattled and so too some of his confidence. Nothing to do with him being an expat QLDer

It is always a worry IMHO when a player in the backs starts wearing head gear - except Johnathan Thurston oops sorry different code

Ewen is an astute recruiter and man manager who brings alot more out of his charges than Deans , but i'm not sure i would describe anything he has done as mastermind. the Genia move was always a mistake and everyone could see that- my opinion for what it is worth- it was probably Genias idea rather than Ewen's. He allowed Waugh a bis say at the Waratahs and i think he allows Will the same at the Reds.

Surely that can only get him so far though Jiggles? I just can't believe that with all the pressure and media attention the Wallaby tight five have had heaped on them not just recently but for 5 years they just keep trotting out the same players. Forget about the bloody back line they need to win the tough stuff up front first!

well who are they then? who are these chiefs that have no home? These same chiefs that were also once known as waikato chiefs and play in waikato at waikato stadium. forgive us for wanting super rugby to be a bit less plastic and franchisey.

I'll also come out in Ewen's defense here - losing your five eighth inside 20 min will always hurt you. The move to play Genia at 10 was a big gamble (and one I didn't agree with), but had it come off, he would have looked like a mastermind. We all know how the cards fell, but you can't forget the hard fought five wins in a row I get to te finals (including wins against the chiefs, Brumbies at home and highlanders).

The Jake White that McKenzie outcoached 2-0? And told him the second time around exactly how he would do it in a newspaper article a few days out?

Slipper did pretty well against all comers in Super Rugby, Alexander and Benn Robbo included. Let me know when you have an actual point.

Looking forward to seeing how this team performs, hopefully with a nothing to lose attitude with a mongrel approach combined with steely resolve. If Barnes resorts to more kicks then passes then he should be pulled early.Don't have too many issues with the backline however I definitely don't think the forward pack will provide enough go forward and quality ball.Set pieces areas usual going to be crucial.

Being out-thought on one game is hardly a systematic failure.

All the Waratahs players are unfit....you just had to watch any of their games this year to see that. Too much time pumping iron, not enough aerobic fitness from my observations.
