Perth Glory vs Brisbane Roar: A-League live scores

By The Roar / Editor

Both Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar will be looking for three points to keep them in touch with the top six when they meet at nib Stadium tonight. We’ll have live scores from 9.45pm AEDT.

Less than twelve months ago these two sides played out one of the most dramatic A-League grand finals in history, with Brisbane’s late penalty ensuring a 2-1 win and back-to-back A-League premierships.

How times change. Perth and Brisbane currently occupy ninth and eighth positions respectively and with 10 matches left in the A-League season, both face an uphill to find their way into the A-League’s top six.

Brisbane started well last weekend at home to Western Sydney, but they were gradually overrun by the Wanderers and there was no doubt a sense that the better team had taken the three points.

They’ve lost their past three matches on the bounce, a record slightly better than tonight’s opponents, who have managed just two draws from their past five.

Perth began the season as one of the favourites for the A-League title, but have failed to live up to expectations.

Despite the attacking threats of Shane Smeltz and Liam Miller, Ian Ferguson’s side have failed to fire in front of goal, registering 18 goals in 17 matches, the worst attacking record in the A-League.

With Besart Berisha beginning to find form for the visitors, it’s time for the Glory’s big-money signing Smeltz to improve on his measly tally of five goals for the season.

If he doesn’t Perth will find it difficult, both tonight and for the remainder of the A-League season.

When you can't even score with the keep near the half way line you are always going to be in a little trouble

As a side note, why in the name of my left nut did they put the Glory game head to head with Skyworks on Australia Day? Even those supporters who were not forced by family commitments into the fireworks were probably hamstrung by the road closures associated with managing a few hundred thousand attendants. Maddening decision.

Sport is a funny thing though - Wildcats play like rubbish but pull out a last gasp win in the NBL. Glory play brilliantly (I felt) for much of the game but just can't seal the deal. Although I suppose, to borrow a phrase from Australian rules, bad kicking is bad footy.

Let's see, how to put this. Okay. I was actually pretty happy with that. Youth all over the joint, tired old bodies getting rest whilst young WA talent got a look in (finally). We were fast, we were passing well, we were attacking and running and everything I could ask for. All sorts of things that I've been hoping to see. Everything but the final shot was there. But we looked good in that second half. I've seen a lot of comments that it was a dismal game but I think that's crap. We looked good out there. We're just cursed.

Point my hat - how we didn't score 3-5 is just bewildering. That second half looked like the total reverse of what Brisbane did to teams during their 35 game streak...

I don't think I've seen a poorer keeping performance while keeping a clean sheet than I did this evening.

Exceedingly average match, but 3 points on the road is a relief. Truly rode our luck this evening, I don't know how PG didn't score in the 86th minute. I think Perth deserved a point, but c'est la vie.

Deflection from Nichols' strike, misses by inches. Nice lead up from Hallioran, who has just been dragged by Mulvey.

But playing much more attractive, which is something. A good something.
