Big draft weekend ahead for Aussie Jesse Williams

By Worlds Biggest / Roar Pro

The NFL draft starts tomorrow. This will be an epic three day TV extravaganza taking place in New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

The first round of the draft (32 selected players) will take place today.

The rest of the rounds, from two to seven, will take place on Saturday and Sunday our time.

Australians have a vested interest in the draft with our very own Jesse Williams a sure fire selection. The tattooed giant will become only the second Australian after Colin Scott’s (1987 third round) to be drafted.

While there is speculation that Williams may be drafted in the first round – i.e. one of the top 32 – this may be a little optimistic. It’s likely Williams will be drafted in the second round.

While there is no doubt Williams is a quality player, it is timing rather than anything else that is against him.

There is good depth in his position of defensive tackle this year, in other years he would be a good chance to be drafted in the first round.

Whatever round he gets selected should be celebrated here in Australia. He has already achieved a huge amount for his college Alabama, winning consecutive national titles and becoming a cult figure.

This though will be his crowning moment getting drafted into the NFL.

Congratulations Jesse, Australia is proud of you.

WB, I saw an interview with him on 60 Minutes a while back. The potential multi million dollar contract was raised and he made out he was a surety to get that money. His no show in the draft so far suggests he may not get that contract yet.

Milz, how so ? My take is he is humble & hard working, doesn't drink and determined to make a name for himself in the NFL. Good on him.

He seems a little too cocky for a bloke who has yet to play a minute of NFL, let alone drafted!
