Is Borussia Dortmund emulating Arsenal?

By Harsh Sinha / Roar Guru

The German giants Borussia Dortmund are one unit that is capable of doing the impossible in the most dramatic style.

The side taken over by Jürgen Klopp has gone on to win back to back German Bundesliga titles in some style before Bayern Munich displayed their best performance this season, recapturing the title.

However, Klopp’s army is having a sensational outing in Europe this season.

They have been facing monumental tasks ever since game one of Champions League and succeeding.

They not only topped the Group of death after wins over Ajax, Manchester City and Real Madrid, but have also remained undefeated in Europe, the only side to do so.

Shaktar, Malaga and now Real Madrid, Dortmund seems to have answer to every tough opposition and are perfectly placed to play the finals on May 25 in Wembley.

So what’s about emulating Arsenal, as the title goes?

Borussia Dortmund is in some massive trouble as their top players does not want to wear the black and yellow anymore.

Mario Gotze’s move to FC Bayern Munich, just days before the semifinal clash against Real Madrid angered the fans and some of them even went on to strip his name from a jersey and burn it.

Dortmund decimated the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s 4 goals, becoming the only one to do so against Real in Europe. A day later, he is rumoured to be a part of Bayern as well.

Central defender Hummels has already voiced his interest in joining Barcelona this summer. The 24-year-old is set to break Dortmund’s heart next season. So with their top players moving out, what does that indicate?

Dortmund is emulating Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal which is a sign of downfall.

Arsenal failed to hold onto names like Henry, Cole, Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor, Viera, Toure, Clichy, Fabregas, Nasri, Song and the golden boy of English Premier League- Robin Van Persie. Being regarded as one of the best in England, Arsenal went on to their current streak without winning a trophy for years.

The majority of those players who left tasted cup titles.

Borussia’s case is worse, considering the fact that though the number is only three, it’s actually happening together in one season.

That too their best players. Other than Reus, Dortmund is not left with Subotic, Kehl, Błaszczykowski, Piszczek, Santana and Gunter who still make it a quality side.

But with the departure of the trio, Dortmund recapturing German Bundesliga looks far from possible. Chances of winning one trophy a season will still be tough without their top players and Munich’s amazing squad with explosive inclusions of late.

For any club to be at the top and maintain their supremacy, keeping the squad injury free and making it stronger and stronger is the main goal.

Bayern are on their way to do it, Barcelona and Real Madrid are already looking for new signings and Chelsea look to buy Falcao and Jose Mourinho.

Dortmund failing to hold their big guns is a really bad sign for their future. Klopp needs to reconstruct his side with new signings or stop Lewandowski or Hummels from going somewhere else. All that we can say now is that Borussia Dortmund is going to suffer the same fate as Arsenal in coming years.

"Dortmund decimated the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid" They eliminated 10% of Real? You might want to look up what decimate actually means. Anihilated, that's a better word.

Dortmund players have also displayed their skills winning back to back Bundesliga titles before losing out to Bayern this season. Now, when they are world class (goetze, lewandowski, hummels), they no longer want to stay in the club. Isn't it similar to RVP, Fabregas, Henry, Nasri and rest.

Can't see the comparison with Arsenal, most of the players showed something before being bought by Arsenal. Borussia Dortmund developed theirs or recruited them young

Today, players want money, titles and tag of being one of the best. The moment they see someone bigger offering them something huge, they forget everything else. But there are some exceptions like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Lionel Messi, Zanetti, James Caragher. They have been icons and loyal figures for United, Barca, Inter and Liverpool respectively.

Bondy, Carlo Ancelloti is the favorite to replace Mourinho next season. Maybe PSG will offer something huge to Klopp which can't be refusable.

The thing that bothers me the most about these kinds of transfers is that, for example, Goetze has been with Borussia Dortmund since he was 8. Just like any other boy that age, playing for his team in the league and Champions League would've been his ultimate dream, and Bayern Munich would've been the 'hated' enemy (like for every non-Bayern fan). But as soon as he becomes good, he deserts his boyhood club for that very team he hated. Even worse is Bayern's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He joined Schalke when he was just 4, and in his teenage years he was even a member of one of Schalke's ultras groups. While playing for Schalke, after a victory against Bayern he ran to their supporters and mocked them and Bayern legend Oliver Kahn, so the hate was real... until he jumped ship and joined them. I can understand a player wanting to leave a club for a better club, but i can't understand someone leaving their successful boyhood club (at which they are already being paid many millions a year - Goetze's salary is a reported 4.5mil euros) for their fierce rivals. What's the point of following your team if even the players themselves want to play for your rivals?

H, I have heard Klopp is potentially being courted by real madrid if mourinho moves back to chelsea or england permanently.

With Real, Barca, Bayern, United, Chelsea,City and PSG as top target moves, which player would like to land into Borussia Dortmund? Probably someone on loan. Even their manager Jurgen Klopp is rumored to leave the club which is pathetic. If not for someone else, feel sad for the craziest fans in Europe- Dortmund!

And the exodus of players may continue... Add Robert Lewandowski. Potential now to go to who? No one other than Manchester United. I say good on these players but this team has a chance to create their own history. Germany, recently rated no.1 in the world of football for competition, coaches, titles, players, etc... Now Hummels to Barca? Well what about Madrid? Madrid could come ou firing next year and run away with it again. That's football. But this fixation on history, titles are all bull in my opinion. Money speaks. If it didn't and they could earn more at their current club then... http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/alex-ferguson-closes-in-on-borussia-dortmund-striker-robert-lewandowski-8591322.html

Feel sad for them. But lets hope they can overcome a real hurdle at Bernabeau and beat Bayern (unless Barca shocks the world) at Wembley. That would be fair and really nice for Dortmund supporters.

Suppose I am Hummels. People, fans , media and even haters know that i am an excellent defender and have bagged few Bundesliga titles of my own and even German Cup. Bayern, a far superior side this season and Barcelona, not so great this season but are truly one of the best, offers me a contract with good amount of wage payment. Hmmm, should i continue to play in the best league with a better side in Bayern? But in that case, my place won;t be secured against the likes of Dante, Lahm and Badstuber. Barcelona? Titles, players and history!!! Sounds better than our fellow rivals Bayern. Who do they have in last line who can be trusted? Their captain is old and the comeback master Abidal isn;t anywhere near his best. Mascherano and Pique are average this season. All Set! Let's play alongside Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and be regarded as one of the best center back in the world. Full Stop. Latest News: Barcelona signs Matt Hummels for a 35 million price.

It would be fitting if Dortmund won it this year, unfortunately it will be stripped next year and constantly after that, good luck to them, every body has a soft spot for them against the financial giants.

It's a tough pill to swallow losing such calibre of players. One question I wish to pose to these players although I know the answer id already get is: "Why do you want to go to Barcelona, Manchester united... etc?" They'll tell you it's not about the money. They'll tell you it's about the history... I still can't fathom how players can be classed as the best in the world when they don't even play in the best competition. When the same, teams are consistently winning or there is normally only two fighting for a title it makes, you think and look much further into things. But unfortunately we arrive back at money! It can become a way to dictate and can also become quite political. These players... Can leave for whatever reason, but wouldn't you want to be playing week in, week out in the best football competition in the world?

Money is the only word which differentiates football from modern football. City and PSG have been the fine specimens in recent past. However, when your players know that there are superior teams present in Europe, irrespective of money, you would like to feature for that side at one point of time. Hummels and Neymar wanted to play for Barcelona even before their agents landed up in Catalonia for talk if we go by reports.
