Lleyton Hewitt vs Dustin Brown: 2013 Wimbledon live scores

By Alan / Roar Guru

Lleyton Hewitt was back to his best in his first round victory over Wawrinka and should be favoured to secure a place in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships when he meets German Dustin Brown tonight. Join us for live scores from 8.30pm AEST.

Hewitt showed why he ranks as one of the most dangerous floaters in the Wimbledon draw after outplaying 11th seed Wawrinka en route to a straight sets victory.

The former Wimbledon champion was simply superb as he dismantled Wawrinka with his precise shot-making, superb movement and accurate volleying.

All up, Hewitt produced 32 winners and just 11 unforced errors against Wawrinka to cap off a fine opening round win against the dangerous Swiss player.

Given that Rafael Nadal has already been eliminated, Hewitt’s passage to a potential quarter-final match-up against Roger Federer has been opened up significantly.

With this in mind, the Australian should be favoured to start with great intensity against Brown in a bid to attain victory and make the most of this great opportunity to go deep into the Wimbledon championships.

Prediction

Brown is coming off a solid straight sets victory over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the opening round and really has nothing to lose against Hewitt tonight.

The German certainly has the talent to make life difficult for Hewitt, given his high winner count against Garcia-Lopez.

Brown hit just under 50 winners against the Spaniard and also kept his unforced error count well in check in the process.

Given that he now comes up against Hewitt, expect Brown to really rise to the occasion tonight in a bid to cause the upset.

If Brown is allowed to nab the first set, Hewitt’s afternoon could turn difficult very quickly if the Australian fails to start with the intensity that allowed him to blow Wawrinka off the court early in the opening round.

With Hewitt brimming with confidence however, the Australian really should be favoured to win tonight. His experience and tenacity on court should prove to be enough for him to progress to the third round.

Hewitt in straight sets.

What a lost opportunity for Hewitt! Federer losing as well opened up the draw immensely for Hewitt given that Isner also withdrew because of injury. If there was a tournament where Hewitt could make a run to the semi-finals, this was it and he didn't take his chances. I don't know if he'll continue on after squandering a wonderful opportunity to really go deep here.
