Parramatta Eels' future not so dark

By prathik namakal / Roar Rookie

The future for the Parramatta Eels is not so dark because of the players like Jarryd Hayne and Jacob Loko.

Sure the Eels have had dark days in the last 22 rounds, with problems off the field like the 12 players being sacked and Chris Sandow reportedly again struggling with gambling problems (something he has denied since the end of 2011, before joining the Eels).

But with Hayne and Loko showing promising signs and the signing of star players – like Will Hopoate, who showed his ability before his two year Mormon mission – it’s not all bleak.

Jarryd Hayne has shown his skill in the past six years with the try assists he produces and strength with the tackle busts he makes.

Tackle busts are Jacob Loko’s strength on the left edge, with Loko coming third mid-season in tackle busts. His strength has improved in the two years he was injured with rehabilitation on his ACL.

This has improved his ability to break through tackles and create a break to make the left edge dangerous for opponents.

We don’t know what the new signings for the Eels will bring but they are part of Ricky Stuart’s plan and all Eels fans hope for more success than they have had in the last three years.

you don't see the quality within hayne because of the amount of injuries that occur but the recruits will reduce his work load leading to a less of an injury toll giving him the ability to play at his best

Parramatta won't improve until they realise from the top down that they have a five year problem needing a five year solution. I don't like sticky as a coach but I think a bad coach, CEO and board given the appropriate time to fix this is better than good ones given an unrealistic deadline.

Stuart let Horo go not Kearney, Kearney dropped him and Stuart didnt 2nd guess the man who left him this mess to clean up, surely everyone on the roster at one point had there name looked over by Stuart yet he saw Horo in NSW cup and instead of looking at bringing him back into the fold with some love, Na he sold him off and persisted with players like Roberts at 5/8. A Pewhairangi has potential, the season is over and where is he ? perfect time to give him more top level game time instead he sticks with Roberts.

I dont know if he is signed yet but Jake M would be in my planning for next year. Man of match last week and combined wel with Jared. Can only improve with Jacob back etc. I would even suggestbhim as a Cameron Smith type at hooker if Corey fullback. Combine with new hooker and be a great Mr Versatile in 2014. Please retain him as we have a premiership team of lost players playing everywhere else but in blue and gold eh !

He's been quite consistent this year. No player is perfect and they will have slip-ups in their game along the way. Hayne's defence at the back was the best in the competition before he was injured. He was one of NSW's first picked and is far from the problem at Parramatta. You say he's lazy but how much have you watched of him this season? The lazy Hayne was the one of years passed. This year I've seen him put in 100% in almost every game. I know he's been inconsistent in the past but this season he's been switched on and trying his guts out every game. If he was really lazy would he have back up from Origin 1 and put his body on the line 3 days later for his club?

Pressure is off at Parra? You're not serious are you? Hayne is under a mountain of pressure at Parramatta as he's carrying the team. He's easily been Parramatta's best when he's on the field this season.

Yeah I single him out coz after watching the Bulldogs and Tigers games I smelt a rat. Many times do I commend his brilliant play but he shows it in flashes. I provide evidence. I make balanced commentary. Dont you ever wonder why the Eels are so crap?! Hayne is part of that, he should be a leader. He shows lots of flashes of brilliance. I remember in the recent Eels v DRagons at Wollongong - Dugan was in the open field heading for the tryline, he tried to put a step on Hayne, but Hayne matched him and tackled him! Hayne has it in him! He just needs to be consistent.

They have a big pre season ahead, Ricky Stewart is not only saving his team but has the task of rebuilding rugby league in the West.

Word is there could be some quality "innocent" (not there during the scandal) sharks players on the market soon. Get rid of and settle with the failed experiment that is Sandow and with the other team dismissals there could well be room for them at the Eels . . lol. Sharks as a club need to be kicked out for being suckered into that 11 week program and bringing the game into disrepute. Move to either central coast, Perth or add them as a second metro Brisvegas team

My theory is that he doesnt try as hard when hes at the Eels. He is out of the spotlight and the pressure is off coz the Eels are so bad. Im not highlighting one game. His games at the start of the yr vs the Tigers and Bulldogs werent very good. Im scrutizing Hayne a lot coz he chews up so much of their salary cap. Now if youre a teammate of Hayne and he is on 6 times your salary and u dont see him put in, do you put in 100% too?

A bit harsh there on Hayne if you're judging him on the strength of the 1 game. I watched that game you're talking about & despite the errors he was still easily Parras best player as he was again on the weekend. That highlights the point that the rest of the roster isn't good enough. We have seen Hayne excel at Origin level multiple times & part of the reason is because he is surrounded by other quality players. That allows him to play his natural game instead of carrying the team every week. Id love to see Hayne in a top 8 team so I hope Parra can get it together or that he goes to the Dogs as the rumour mill suggests.
