Will, it's not even the first time I've inadvertantly buggered up big events. I got married in September 2000, and in attempting to find a window avoiding the Olympics, NRL GF, Bledisloes, etc, I confirmed and booked everything before realising we were getting married on AFL GF day. Wasn't popular with many interstate travelers!

Too right Will, the longest lasting marriages are where you set low expectations right up front, so that they're never disappointed in you. My brother got married on a Sat afternoon in rugby season, the date, early wedding and reception time deliberately arranged by my sister-in-law so as to provide maximum annoyance and discomfort to my father, who was coaching the local senior side at the time. The one mistake she made was to have the reception at the rugby club, with the lure of the game outside proving too strong for my dad and a few others. Although he hadn't been able to prepare the side and watch the game, someone yelled out that it was halftime, he got up right in the middle of the speeches, walked out onto the ground, ripped into the team in his usual style, then walked back in and sat down again at the head table as if nothing had happened.

Brett - can't believe you missed the game for an anniversary! I got married on a Friday to avoid a clash with the Cox Plate (and then went to the races the day after the wedding), so it's fair to say my wife knows where my priorities lie.

Brett, sorry you were otherwise occupied on Sat night - although we did arrange for the leftover canapés to be posted down to you - have they arrived yet? Ryan, you'll find Tahiti is located just near Kazkazakhstan. Probably not a bad place for Tooves to take a much needed spell. A couple of years would be about right.
