Western Sydney Wanderers versus Melbourne Victory live scores, blog

By Nick Richardson / Roar Guru

Welcome to this match between Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory. We’ll have live scores and updates from 7.45pm AEDT.

If history is anything to go by, the Wanderers will come out on top, having never been beaten by the Victory.

As well as that, the red and black have won three successive matches against Melbourne Victory, with Shinji Ono scoring three goals in those matches.

The Victory is still finding their feet after the departure of coach Ange Postecoglou, and a win in this fixture would confirm they are settling into life under Kevin Muscat.

James Troisi has been in amazing form and will be the key to the Victory winning this match. His goal tally sits above anyone else’s in the A-League, with seven goals to his name.

The Wanderers are coming off a win against reigning premiers Central Coast on Monday night, with first-half goals to Tomi Juric and Youssouf Hersi getting the three points.

In many ways, the Victory is a similar task with both moving on from very successful coaches and both having very steady starts to the season.

Wanderers’ slippery winger Hersi has found the form he had before his foot injury. He will need to be controlled or he will tear the fragile Victory defence to shreds.

X-factor
Shinji Ono – The Victory’s preferred 4-2-4 formation could force one of Mitch Nichols or Troisi to drop deep and interfere with the Japanese international, as holding duo Mark Milligan and Leigh Broxham are likely to have their hands full with the Wanderers’ deeper pair.

If Ono is left unattended, he has the potential to draw one of Victory’s centre-backs out of position, leaving Tomi Juric free to wreak havoc in the box.

That has nothing to do with anything, Watson.

The trouble is the soccer is a minor sport in Aus compared tp AFL NRL and cannot afford any bad publicity.

Finally got around to watching the game this morning. aside from some questionable finishing from both sides it was top qualify stuff. The youth qualify at Melbourne is really exciting to see. Their off the ball work is top class. Muscat seems to be doing OK but a young squad does need an experienced manager. poppa doesn't have that problem because of his older squad. But end of the day so little separates the two teams. Very happy with that WSW performance considering the team we put on. Minnicon impresses me every week. Amazing show from travelling fans. Was gutted I couldn't make it. Now we have 4 teams we out sing in their own stadiums. Next frontier is Brisbane!

Yes they do add to the atmosphere ....seriously alcohol causes more actual harm at sporting venues than flares or crackers...fact....

I was watching the game...as for the street antics, brawls of that sort happen in all sorts of contexts mate. Idiots are idiots and alcohol usually fuels it. Unavoidable sadly....

Addition time of 3 minutes is a MINIMUM, not a fixed amount. Exactly how much time added is up to the referee.

+1 Disgraceful showing from the traveling WSW support.. flares, explosion like sounds going off scaring families and kids and anti social behavior on the streets of Melbourne .. ffa need to step in and sort this out. Sick of pathetic mongrels ruining the image of our game MVFC deserved the point. . Wsw were awful at times. Santalaab with a lovely goal.

The ref didn't affect the result, missed handballs at both ends. The only thing ugly about that match was the disgraceful performance from the travelling fans and the flares/bangers they set off. Absolutely disgusting.effort.

What a high quality game. Completely unlike any game with Melbourne Heart playing.

Should of been 2 penalties for wanderers and 1 penalty for victory. The referees are really holding the a league back.

Because the foul was awarded before the end of the 93rd minute. Awarded exactly at 92:50
