BREAKING: Heart sack coach Aloisi

By News / Wire

After a record of just eight wins from 39 games, Melbourne Heart have reportedly lost patience with coach John Aloisi.

News Corp reports the former player was sacked after a lengthy board meeting on Saturday, two years into a three-year deal.

No club officials returned calls seeking confirmation of the sacking.

Aloisi presided over the worst record in the A-League and his tenure ended after 17 straight games without a win and one clean sheet in 19 games.

The last result, a 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Wellington on Friday night, followed a 3-1 loss to Melbourne rivals Victory.

Aloisi won his first game in charge of the club on the opening weekend of the 2012/13 season with a 2-1 win over Victory, but struggled for consistency.

Without an interstate win through the league, Heart were well placed to contest the A-League finals but fell apart in the final month, losing their last five games of the season to finish 9th.

In 2013/14, Aloisi oversaw a major overhaul, with senior players Matt Thompson, Richard Garcia, Fred and Simon Colosimo all moved on.

Socceroo legend Harry Kewell was appointed club captain, while Orlando Engelaar, Patrick Kisnorbo and Michael Mifsud were brought in from European leagues.

For all that, they sit last on the A-League table with just four points from 12 games.

Once again, i didnt say they should forever be content in that development role. Not at all. But for where they are now at this moment in their hopefully long history to be built in this league....yes...great way also to cement the core fans they do have, so when success comes it'll be gravy.

To be fair Stevo, i said at this point in time MH should be ok with settling into the role of development club. Certainly not forever and ever though...in some respects perhaps developing youth will be the thing to build them success in the mid to long term?

+1 stefanov I actually think it was detrimental for both the club and Aloisi himself to wait that long. towards the end I think he was completely delusional and his imo silly reaction when bozza asked him if he had thought about leaving proves it. when you have the record that he has, in any sport, I think you should start questioning yourself, not really your abilities as a coach but just if you are the right person for the team right now. To have some fighting spirit in you is great as long as it doesn't blind you.

Heart have sacked Aloisi, saying that they hope to find a replacement within the next 17 games.

Aloisi should never have been appointed and i suspect that had Aust taken pens first back in 2005 v Uruguay he would not have been. Then maybe the credit for our wc qualification could have gone where it was deserved... Mark Schwartzer. I never understood the kudos given Aloisi for simply doing what is expected ie kick your pen. I put it down to the predominance of supporters of 'no-rules' and 'thugby' in our media, people who don't understand football.

I'll be surprised if Kewell sees out the season without suffering to a mysterious season ending injury...

I feel a bit sorry for him. Hearts ability to play well and set up chances, only to squander them must have been frustrating for him.

I feel for Kewell playing for the Heart, this has now made him a soft target and a player of his stature doesn't deserve the ridicule he has received.Things may have been a lot different if he was in Sydney, Brisbane or Newcastle.

Agreed Real - he was fairly good in the late 1990s for an Aussie footballer but has been a Lemon since. By Dutch standards he has always been totally mediocre - I imagine the Dutch production line produces at least 100 players a season of equal or superior skill. Still one can only play what you have to work with I suppose.

One thing that is emerging from all this is that Kewell's race is run and he should hang up his boots. He's not going to Brazil. We are all lucky to have seen him at his best in the past, but that's exactly where his best is.

Disgraceful, Aloisi was treated with little respect. Totally unaustralian behavior. One can only do so much with totally average players. Kewell should hang his head in shame- his contributions to the Heart have been as farcical as his penalty miss last week. Heart should be relocated to Townsville after this- a fail experiment.

Agreed, JA has made a mess of it. He should never have been appointed in the first place. But I stand by what I said. I thought your post was, as they say in politics, unfortunate.

We seem to be missing each other here Stevo. I liked your crack about charity. You should have kept it. Now you're changed your post I can't reply with my own joke! And I thought it was quite good.

What nordster said was that MH should not expect to win silverware but be content with being a youth development club LOL
