Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar: A-League live scores, blog

By Zee / Roar Guru

Everything is set up for a juicy and feisty encounter tonight when the Melbourne Victory welcome A-League leaders Brisbane Roar to AAMI Park. We’ll have live scores and commentary from 7.45pm AEDT.

After this last week’s controversy surrounding fan behavior, and the suspended three-point deduction for Melbourne Victory, they will be looking for a positive turn of changes and continue their dominance over the Roar.

These two sides have played 25 times, with Victory edging out on 11 wins, with six draws taking place.

While Roar are experiencing a great season thus far, and are looking to extending their lead on the top of the table.

The Queensland side are coming into this fixture on the back of four wins out of five, while Melbourne have drawn two, lost one and won two of their last five fixtures.

Gui Finkler seems to the be the man of the moment in the A-League.

His super sub Solskjaer-like appearances have warmed him to all supporters of the league, and again he seems odds-on to be the game-changer tonight.

The ins-outs for tonight fixture continues on recent weeks, Archie Thompson continues to remain on the sidelines while Rashid Mahazi and Nick Ansell are back into the starting squad.

For Brisbane Shane Stefanutto, Besart Berisha and George Lambadardis miss out through injury, while hat-trick hero – Dimitri Petratros looks set to keep his place in the starting XI.

The dark cloud that hangs over this fixture is the continued disunity within the Victory club, with supporters still fuming over the boards treatment of their NT supporters, and their is a angered atmosphere amongst all fans.

It will be interesting to see how the atmosphere will be tonight.

Prediction
Going for a MV win, 2-1 I say. Gui Finkler to be lauded as the special one, once again.

The romance of watching something beautiful, unsullied by the observer. It's kind of a spiritual experience. Like BES, I too was awestruck. Rob, when you're team plays like this you may be loss for words, too. It probably just doesn't happen too often like it does with the Roar? Mind you I reckon BES was waxing lyrical a wee bit, there. I'm sure he would count himself as an active, and vocal, supporter! And no one in their right mind would suggest all Victory fans are anti-social, selfish &/or malevolent. Or that noisy support equates to poor football on the pitch. You can have both. But that performance was worth all the "hype" of supporters "powering the game", IMHO; )

Or doing a massive rain dance. Remember the pitch and the weather when BR's massive unbeaten run finally came to an end in Woolongong, add to this the loss in Newcastle in atrocious conditions and the only thing that looks like stopping Brisbane this year is the weather.

What about passionate supporters such as myself who stand, jump, clap and sing until our throats give out? Do we sit back? Don't lump real fanatical supporters like me in with anti-social scum. I'll never set off a flare, I'll never light a firecracker and I'll certainly never even consider engaging anyone in a physical altercation. I'll never sit down and stop singing, either.

Is this the best round we've had since the early rounds of the season? Big upset on New Years Day, really opening up the competition. Eventful clash on Friday night. Incredible performance by Brisbane tonight, the type that would impress much bigger leagues. Add to that 3 effective sell outs from 4 games, each of those 3 games with excellent atmosphere. I think a win to Heart tomorrow will be the ideal way to end the round from an excitement point of view. WSW v Victory on Tuesday and Sydney Derby on Saturday will keep that momentum going.

Will be asking the Parra Eels to dig up our stadium as much as possible before we meet Brisbane in April.

The hoodoo is broken! I was hoping for 1-0 or 2-1, but never in my wildest dreams would I have anticipated such a convincing scoreline. Go the Roar!

This is how Melbourne Victory will win nothing. A classic example. Take note, A-League.
