Top 20 potential EPL transfers of the January window (part 2)

By Dylan Arvela / Roar Guru

Following Saturday’s first instalment, here’s the countdown of the first half of the EPL’s top 10 potential transfers during the January window.

10. Wilfried Zaha to Crystal Palace
The English international was the last signing of the great Sir Alex Ferguson, yet despite many United fans’ anticipation he has rarely featured under David Moyes with only two first team appearances.

Zaha is still one year into a five-and-a-half-year contract, so it is unlikely that Palace will have the money to buy back their former star player.

A loan deal, however, could definitely be on the cards.

9. Mohamed Salah to Liverpool
Salah has shone for Swiss giants Basel for the best part of two years. The Egyptian international has scored in some big fixtures, particularly in Europe.

His goal against Chelsea earlier this season secured victory for the Swiss side and began the rumours of Premier League clubs circling the 21-year-old winger.

Liverpool are looking to add depth to their squad in their pursuit of a Champions League berth and at a touted $15 million, Salah could be a fine acquisition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

8. Leighton Baines to Manchester United
The left back has been a target of United for over a year now. United have made enquiries about Luke Shaw of Southampton and Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao as the transfer of Baines from Everton seems to be going through somewhat of a quagmire.

That said, if United were to sign to Englishman they would have one of the finest left backs in the world as well as a superb dead ball specialist.

The main question is – at 29, is he worth $45 million?

7. Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea
The Argentine transferred to Napoli in the Serie A in the last window and has already scored nine goals in the league. He seems to be loving life in Naples, especially since he was a bench player for large portions of his Real Madrid career.

He could also see a move to Chelsea as a boost to his chances of starting for Argentina in the World Cup as he is probably still behind the likes of Sergio Aguero and obviously Lionel Messi.

The striker situation at Chelsea has been well documented, with Torres, Eto’o and Ba having managed only seven goals between them in the league as of January 5.

If Chelsea were to get the former River Plate forward they would need to fork out up to $90 million.

6. Alexandre Pato to Arsenal
The Brazilian was one of the most exciting prospects in Europe around five years ago, but has found himself back in Brazil playing for Corinthians after a long list of injuries that saw him lose his spot at AC Milan.

Pato still has hopes of playing in this year’s World Cup having featured in some of Brazil’s recent squads, so a move to the Emirates would most definitely put him back on the radar.

Arsenal are keen to bolster their attacking options, making a move for the 24 year old seem like a calculated gamble – Pato could guide Arsenal to the title just as easily as he could find himself on the injury list.

On top of that, Arsenal would be needing to pay $55 million to trigger his release clause.

The top five countdown is coming soon – who do you think will be on the list?

Sorry mate but there was never a £25 million offer for Baines. There was a ludicrous £12 million offer which was rebuffed. Otherwise I don't have a problem with the article. Just don't take anything the Daily Fail, or most of the British press for that matter, say as gospel.

Listen you expert, Manchester United have had a 25 million BRITISH POUND bid for Baines which was turned down by Everton. That is $45 million so I have got my facts write. Also in a further response to Andy, I am not saying whether or not United should sign him or not nor am I saying Everton should sign him or not. I am just putting forward POTENTIAL transfers and what price clubs will be looking to get for their players.

Still not $45m though, more like $25. Once again get a clue before writing articles.

Well you are taking in £ and the article is in $ so $45 million is a lot less in £.

Where did anyone get a $45 million price tag for Baines? With the way Oviedo has been playing, and the dead ball skills of Barkley, I think Everton would bite their hand off for such a fee. United were offering petty sums, however, and that's why the Toffees saw no need to do business. He had a decent amount left on hiscontract and was playing like the best LB in the league, possibly the world (and played nearly every minute of last season). Now they know they have a replacement, and he's not signing another contract I can see them willing to negotiate. It'd be more like 10-15 million GBP though. Should United take that offer up? I don't really know, but they could likely get someone to do a damn good job for a lot less who will have a much longer career.
