Broich wary of Roar's A-League title talk

A quick glance at the A-League table suggests runaway leaders Brisbane Roar are well on track for a third championship.

However, German import Thomas Broich believes the next two weeks will provide a true gauge of their title chances.

Brisbane are five points clear of Western Sydney Wanderers on top of the ladder with a game in hand after overcoming in-form Wellington 2-1 last round despite being without star striker Besart Berisha (suspension) and Socceroos midfielder Matt McKay (ankle) and Ivan Franjic (stomach strain).

The Roar faithful have already dared to dream of another title.

However, Broich said he would only start rating his side as a title threat if they emerged triumphant from their next two games – Sunday’s home clash with defending champions Central Coast and a February 7 away showdown with the Wanderers.

“We will just wait and see how we perform in those two games and see where we are sitting on the table after that,” he said.

“If we get through that alright we will know if we are a big chance of actually going for the title.”

Broich was wary of Central Coast after they sealed back-to-back wins with their 3-0 last round hammering of Newcastle.

“It is not easy after winning the championship to be a top side again,” he said.

“They have lost some players and had a change in coach too. It seems now that they have adapted to those changes and are real title contenders again.

“We have to be real careful.”

Brisbane’s depth continued to amaze when teenager Devante Clut became the latest to roll off the seemingly never-ending Roar production line against a plucky Wellington.

Clut ensured a dream A-League debut when his stunning early second-half strike levelled the scores before Luke Brattan’s late wonder goal iced the result.

It gave a timely glimpse of life after Berisha, who announced last week that he would link with Melbourne Victory at season’s end.

“That’s one thing we have been able to do well. We have had quite a few injuries this season but it doesn’t matter who is on the pitch – the young ones are stepping up and doing a great job,” Broich said.

We were actually without 4 of our best players. Miller didn't play either. I think Miller is definitely one of our most important players. More so than Franjic at the very least.

Brisbane vs Central Coast on Sunday is going to be a good match. These two always serve up good football when facing one another.

Victory did once before and ruined him (short term obviously). I reckon NIco has learned his lesson with them and will steer well clear of them in the future. Welcome back Nico, we look forward to seeing you back in orange and share another double with you. May your stay be long, happy and rewarding for everyone. To you Thomas, thanks a million for the pleasure and successes you have given us. May it continue for many more years.

Good signing and will keep BB on his toes. If Solo comes good by season's end could pick himself up a nice contract (unless Victory try and lure him, of course lol).

Fox sports reporting that Lustica denied a transfer to Roar by AU (off contract end of season). It looks as if Matty may be stuggling with his ankle !

And dont write off NUJ after CCM and WSW, we might make it three from three and BR will be in a bit of strife. We can only hope.

I think the Roar will be the best contenders for the Title Never seems to amaze the dept of our team, these young players slot in perfectly Last weeks game against Phoenix was brilliant ( without three of our top players ) Can't wait for next game Someone tell Berisha to stay cool and let The Captain do the talking to the Ref, we know sometimes the Ref and Assistants need to visit SPECSAVERS

It's been a great season to consolidate and rebuild. The other teams have stuttered a fair bit and given the club a chance to really progress. Even without an over reliance on a star striker they are doing the business. With the first 11 back I'd say Roar are a real show for the double.
