Who will make your 2014 NRL fantasy side?

By Victoria Liu-Pearson / Roar Guru

There are only a few weeks to go until the start of the 2014 NRL season, which means we are not far away until the start of fantasy NRL competitions.

After the success of 2013, along with one of the best grand finals ever, 2014 is sure to be another bumper year for the code.

Off the field, fantasy NRL gives footy fans a chance to get involved in the greatest game of all. You can get your workmates, your family and your friends and enemies together and test your football knowledge.

So get your mates, family and enemies together, sign up and pick your teams!

Will the Melbourne Storm’s trio of Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk be hot properties in the market? How about the devastating Burgess brothers from the South Sydney Rabbitohs?

Are there any other additions you can think would help out your fantasy team?

After careful consideration, I have selected my team below.

Hooker:
Matt Srama (Titans). Reserve – Cameron King (Dragons)

Front Row:
Jacob Lillyman (Warriors) and Jesse Bromwich (Storm). Reserve – Toka Likiliki (Knights) and Luke Burgess (Rabbitohs)
Second Row:
Ben Matulino (Warriors), Tohu Harris (Storm) and Anthony Watmough (Sea Eagles). Reserve – Frank-Paul Nuuausala (Roosters), Sam Tagtese (Sharks) and Darcy Lussick (Eels)

Halves:
Michael Witt (Dragons) and James Maloney (Roosters). Reserve – Luke Kelly (Eels) and Ben Hunt (Broncos)

Centres:
Justin Hodges (Broncos) and Blake Ayshford (Sharks). Reserve – Dane Nielsen (Warriors) and Steve Michaels (Titans)

Wingers:
James McManus (Knights) and Sam Perrett (Bulldogs). Reserve – Justin O’Neil (Storm)

Fullback:
Sam Tomkins (Warriors). Reserve – Dane Chisholm (Sea Eagles)

What do you think, Roarers? Who will you select in your NRL fantasy side in 2014?

Victoria, if you are going to take this seriously to beat family & friends, then you need to rethink virtually every player you've picked. You must have a good mix of guns, mid-range & rookies (cash cows). In NRL Fantasy, Cam Smith is an absolute must have followed by Corey Parker. In Supercoach, Corey Parker is an absolute must have, followed by Cam Smith. You really need to do some more research & look up their past stats (if you can find them). Then you might be able to give an old woman (me) a run for her money ;) Good luck!

Hi Victoria, Just thought I'd write a post and give you some pointers. Quite simply, you must start with at least Parker and C Smith who are the 2 most prolific scorers if you want any chance at Fantasy. The massive cap we are getting this year basically means we have no choice but to start with both of them. Secondly you must have well over a million (easily I'm assuming?) of cap left over. There's no advantage to not spending your cap. You have to spend all of it to get the maximum points possible. Unspent cap = unscored and wasted points. I would alsp highly recommend joining one of them many facebook fantasy groups to get some ideas on the types of players you should be. Good luck

Love Fantasy..I'm no champion but I can see problems for you early Victoria..Doubt that Srama will play in round 1 and Cameron King is at the Cowboys now behind Ray T. who is being groomed for 80mins.Michael Witt won't make the side and Hodges isnt expected to play till mid season. I look for potential money makers in the cheapies..Peats,Coote,Starling,which allows for 3 or 4marquees eg Fifita,Parker,SBW...Watmough is your only consistent big scorer..If you're playing on the NRL site you must be sitting on a lot of unused cap
