NRL 2014 - You’re simply obsessed

By Chris Chard / Expert

On the weekend responsibility sometimes calls you; work needs you; your to-do lists on fire.

And do you run from it, run from it wild and wired?

Ohh it might be wrong… but I think of footy players in Speedos when I hear this song…

=Dun dun dun=

It’s rugby league seas-on!

Ohhhh yeah! The two sweetest words in the English language, ones you’ve been dreaming of hearing all stinking hot summer long, are “NRL’s back!” And boy is it back, baby.

Back to back. Back to basics. Back to the future and back on your box with all the big games and big moments making you smash your remote to smithereens like an irate Des Hasler down at the Dee Why Discount Doors Depository.

Forget the Poms in the cricket, forget mowing the lawn and forget the milk on the way home from work because the 2014 NRL season is here – and may I say not a moment too soon.

Don’t get me wrong, I know you’ve given the off-season 110%. ‘Fired up’ in the mornings, trained the house down in the afternoon and taken things one week at a time to keep the footy bug at bay.

But we also know it’s really not your go.

You’re the type of person who needs a set of six with your six-pack. A forty-twenty with your Four n Twenty, a ‘Decision Pending’ with your Twitter trending.

There’s no need for an investigation!

You, my friend, are NRL obsessed.

And I’m here to tell you, you’re not alone.

I’m here to help.

In fact, the whole gang’s here to assist you with your obsession…

There’s SBW. There’s DCE. There’s a bulge of Burgii (number pending). There’s Todd Carney.

There’s Gal and Slats and Fish and Robbie.

There’s JT, GI, Milf and “Go the Doggies!”

There’s Fergo… well, perhaps it’s not his go.

And that’s not even mentioning your loyal support network of friends, neighbours, co-workers and other footy fanatic freeloaders who’ll soon be cramming into your lounge room this season to help you watch all the big games and work their way through your salty snack collection.

And why the bloody hell not? The NRL in 2014 going to be huuuuuge, every single second of it. The dizzying highs, the gruelling rep period slog, the terrifying slump/non-slumps.

Fantastic Friday. Super Saturday. Sexy Sunday. Mad Monday. Miss one and who knows what might you might miss eh?

Benny Elias hitting the crossbar. Darren Albert backing up on the inside. Billy Idol waiting for some power. Wayne Bennett smiling.

Anything’s possible in the greatest game of all!

Best of all I’m here to let you in on a little secret.

A piece of intelligence more hotly guarded than Darius Boyd’s dinner plans.

An inside source has recently tipped me off…

…that this NRL season…

…is going to…

…be…

…the best season

…ever!

Of course it is, it’s NRL 2014 – Simply the best!

And you, my duty dodging friend, are simply obsessed.

As a bloke who does lots of oncall, I needed to check my schedule to see how compatible it was for my season ticket, and the football gods have blessed me, as I only have one conflict all season long which I could change closer to the date.

Finally. The GF seems a millennium ago. The RL off season is the worst period ever, its back. Normality resumes, and we simply have something to talk about on the dinner table. This weekend is going to consist of nothing but, back to back RL from 10am to 6pm. Bring IT :D
