Cheap Seats episode 32: Accidents can happen

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell are sacking the production staff in Episode 32 of the Cheap Seats podcast (not Ep31, as was tweeted this week. Plebs!).

In this episode, Brett is still on a radio high after making his rugby commentary debut on the weekend, while Ryan still has indigestion from partaking in the full American menu on offer at the baseball.

Episode 32 talking points:
– Another packed edition of #AskTheCheapSeats to kick us off;
– NRL, and a full review of everything coming out of the shocking tackle that has left Newcastle player Alex McKinnon with a broken neck, disbelief at Jarryd Hayne escaping sanction for labelling the refereeing on the weekend ‘disgraceful’, and a look ahead to this weekend’s NRL action;
– The overdue return of Australian rugby’s third tier, the new National Rugby Championship, and a test coming up for the Waratahs;
– The now famous token wraps of AFL, the A-League, and the T20 World Cup;
– And the equally famous Worst Case Scenarios for this week.

Stay cheap peeps!

#AskTheCheapSeats - Alot of excitement here in Wellington regarding the Tigers and Warriors (mostly from me admittedly) but with regards to expansion in years to come should NZ be next off the rank with one other given the amount of NZ talent in the NRL and players switiching from Union here? I am aware of young familys relocating to Australia from Wellington to expose their children to the NRL and I cant help but think a second team here should be a priority?

Yeah, that's a fair point, Sledgie. I certainly hope it's no more than a month, and furthermore, I hope it's backdated, given Melbourne have already stood him down for a week, and the judicial hearing has been deferred..

Reckon Mclean will get at least a month for lifting. At the end of the day, McKinnon wouldnt have tucked his head in if he didnt anticipate falling on his head

It could well be Digger. Soundcloud doesn't really have any geographic boundaries, and we're certainly not setting up any restrictions, so it could well have been something like that, maybe even a connection issue for you?

Let the record show that Hayne is part of the worst NRL team. i have seen brilliance from him and defensive lazyness at times.

Another great nudge chaps, well done. Quick comment, the reception i had was very scrambled. Perhaps because i am an international or using an iPad? Anyhow, thought i would pass that on.

I'd say Hayne got off because he stopped at saying some decisions were disgraceful. He didnt attack the referees like certain coaches (tooves, Stuart) and just gave an opinion. If he had of said something like "the refs were pathetic and the decisions they were making were disgraceful" we may have seen a fine.
