Liverpool FC vs Manchester City: EPL live scores, blog

By Alan / Roar Guru

Tonight’s blockbuster between Liverpool and Manchester City will go a long way to deciding which team will lift the Premier League trophy at season’s end. Join us for live scores and commentary from 10.30pm AEST.

The stage is set for an epic contest tonight as Liverpool and Man City clash at Anfield in arguably the most important fixture of the year.

The winner of tonight’s contest will be strongly favoured to win the Premier League with just a few matches remaining before season’s end.

Although both teams are desperate for victory, it is vital that Liverpool finds a way to secure the three points tonight given that they still have to face Chelsea in a few weeks.

A win for Man City on the other hand will practically seal the Premier League title given that City’s run home includes matches that they will be heavily favoured to win.

With so much at stake, tonight’s contest promises to be one of the most enthralling matches of the year, with both teams blessed with incredible firepower.

In good news for City, star striker Sergio Aguero finally returns from another injury lay-off. It will certainly be interesting to see if the Argentine starts tonight.

With Eden Dzeko showing good form of late, Aguero may have to bide his time on the bench and play the role of the trump card for Manuel Pellegrini.

The performances of Yaya Toure and David Silva will also go a long way to deciding City’s fate tonight. Toure and Silva are the players responsible for igniting City’s attack and Liverpool will need to shut them down if they hope to secure a good result at home.

Liverpool strikers Daniel Sturridge and Luiz Suarez meanwhile will fancy their chances of causing huge trouble against City’s defence, particularly if Martin Demichelis fails to show up with his best form.

Overall, an intriguing contest awaits between both teams that are very difficult to split. A score draw at fulltime thus may prove the most likely result here.

Liverpool and City to draw 2-2

"Clattenburg however should be roasted for missing the goalkeeper’s clearance by Skrtel as if you watch the replay he was only 5m away and had a perfect view." He might have been 5 m away but it would have been absolutely damn hard to spot in realtime. It took a replay to show what happened and even then in slomo. Skrtel took a risk and dodged a RED card and a pen definitely.

At some point a ref will need to show the guts required during a very big game to produce a second yellow for what amounted to a ridiculous attempt by Suarez to con the referee into awarding him a free kick. Even if the ref gets it wrong. I have no problem with Suarez's lessor attempt to win a penalty, as at least Kompany made side to side contact and had a hand on his chest. It was conceivable that the contact made Suarez's legs collapse underneath him. The blatant diving will never be stamped out if a referee is not willing to brandish a card for such behaviour. I have no doubt it would have been a yellow had Suarez not been booked earlier in the match. That is the saddest part. Clattenburg obviously didn't want to ruin the game by sending Suarez off. Suarez however is willing to ruin it with his theatrics week in and week out. Clattenburg however should be roasted for missing the goalkeeper's clearance by Skrtel as if you watch the replay he was only 5m away and had a perfect view. As would have the ref's assistant albeit a little further away. Fair enough the ref's assistant did not flag as it is quite possible the lovely people in the stands informed him that they were to 'burn his house down should he try anything silly'... Probably fair to say these two team's attacks were in much better form than their defences. Was a cracking contest.

Pablo, no question Suarez made a meal of it and was very lucky not to be off. However, I find it hard to fathom what the difference is between Suarez and Yaya Toure, who has repeatedly gone to ground this season for cheap free kicks. I'm ok with you calling Suarez a disgrace, but let's set that standards to others as well. Very few footballers would come out well. City may have been denied two penalties, but Suarez was as well when Kompany was clearly handling him inside the penalty area (his reputation does precede him though, so my sympathies are limited). And if you remember the god awful offside call against Sterling at the Etihad back in December, you can say Liverpool are as lucky to have won this game as City were to win last time. In one way, justice has been done.

Probably one of the best games of football I've seen this season. Just a notch below that brilliant UCL 2013 Final.

Suarez is a disgrace. How he stayed on the field for multiple dives i dont know. I hate city but they should have also had 2 penalties. Great game but liverpool bottled it and only the ref kept them in it.

Liverpool's full time celebration says it all really. They have secured a huge result against Man City. They emerge 3-2 winners against a very spirited and determined City outfit that came back from 2 nil down to draw 2 all only to have their hearts broken by a Coutinho goal near full time. Kompany's poor clearance will haunt him. Silva superb for City today. Liverpool were hanging on in the second half and it looked as if City would go on and win. Silva though did miss a great chance to give City the lead in the second half. Liverpool took their chances. Sterling very strong in attack for Liverpool. Will Liverpool win the Premier League title now? Liverpool 3 City 2
