Liverpool: You've made us dream

By SuperEel22 / Roar Guru

On that cool, sunny day at Anfield in September, I stood at the Anfield Road end, looking across at The Kop. The crowd were in full voice, the mighty Reds out on the pitch against Sunderland.

We lost that match 1-0, it’s our only loss at Anfield this season. But in that loss I saw our real threat, how Liverpool could tear apart any team on their day.

On Sunday night I witnessed Liverpool claw their way to victory against Manchester City with a 3-2 victory. With four matches left they sit atop the league; their fate in their own hands.

At the start of the season Brendan Rodgers stated the goal was European qualification. Again he reiterated that in December.

The League is a reality now. The men of Liverpool have made us dream but it’s not over yet. No points can afforded to be dropped, a fact reinforced by Steven Gerrard after the match.

“This does not f*cking slip now. Listen, listen. This is gone, we go to Norwich, exactly the same, we go again. Come on!”

We face Norwich, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Newcastle. For every Red around the world it’s there, within reach.

We’ve been on-board every step of the way. As You’ll Never Walk Alone echoed around the ground, we’re one month from the title.

Liverpool Football Club, you’ve made us dream.

The Crowd Says:

Gloat how much you want but it took Manure 27 years to do the same before their first title in the 90's. All of Manure dominance it only got them how many champions league titles?

I think gerrard will fell bit more of a champion than Giggs. Giggs who shagged his brothers wife for 8 years and to try and reunite with his brother told him it wasn't for love but more for sex!!! Bet his brother felt better and Ryan a true champion with 12 titles!

Supereel I choose not to argue but if I've offended than I apologise, my desire is to see a better condition for football in Australia than it currently is which isn't bad by the way but still needs a hell of a lot more improving compared to International standard as you would know. I hope I haven't put you off writing further articles I do enjoy them, I feel it is Liverpool's year I look forward to further instalments possibly.

This should be the challenge for the A-League and FFA. To convert people who have genuine passion for watching football to become supporters of the A-League. I grew up with about 25 or so people who loved the EPL and we watched it religious and almost exclusively. Since the introduction of WSW nearly all of us are now season ticket holders, own the jersey and watch the team every week. It's about offering a product that people want to purchase but support and help to grow. Although the quality of football might be far superior in England, the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. It's actually so dull now, I'm finding myself watching more Bundesliga now. North Terrace, South End, The Cove, The Den and RBB would have EPL home ends for breakfast, except maybe The Kop when LFC are coming first. I hope the author is sold on the product one day soon. Although he might want to choose SFC instead. We have enough members over here at WSW. Although he's more than welcome on the waiting list.

That's a couple of assumptions there if ever I've seen them. I said I get bored watching the A-League. Any suggestion you seem to see is your interpretation and not what I've written. It's just not fluent, it's not crisp. The ball gets bogged in mid-field so much, the hard pass is always attempted when there's a much easier one. I'm into my 12th season as a football player, I like the game but my first love is rugby league. I'm not getting into a code argument with you. Everyone has their opinion on their favourite sports. It's a little difficult to watch the A-League when the only FTA game is on a Friday night and competes with the NRL. I usually go to my local club and watch the Sydney derby. I actually watched the semi between Victory and Sydney. I have to say that both teams look good when they play two-touch football because they keep it simple. When they start thinking about it they begin to lose their way. I lived in Europe last year and watching Liverpool play was part of my weekly routine like it is in Australia in regards to the Eels in the NRL. Living outside of England I'd head to one of the many local bars, a couple of pints on a Sunday afternoon whilst watching the match was the life. For someone who could virtually watch any European league they wanted in virtual prime-time T.V. slots it meant I was watching a lot of high-quality football. Meaning that when I got back to Australia it was very frustrating trying to watch A-League matches because the quality just wasn't there. I know Liverpool haven't been great over the last 5 years. In 2010 we sat 1 point above relegation. Last season we showed glimpses of the ability to play this terrific, consistent football. Dominating the middle, having Gerrard sit deeper with Coutinho pushing up behind Sturridge and Suarez. Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling are showing their talent. We've known about their talent for a long time but they're now establishing themselves as front-line players. Brendan Rodgers has shown himself to be a quality manager, being able to adapt between his 4-3-3 and his 4-4-2 diamond whenever the situation arises. He used a variant of the diamond against City when Henderson was sent off.

Supereel You suggest you dont watch the A League its boring though you know they cant string four passes together it doesn't make sense ?. You watch Football to sing a song dont you, Liverpool over the past 4-5 years if you're a genuine supporter would know they've played nothing but sh^^.. It just sounds as though you like the sport as long as its not in Australia. Thanks for your feedback anyway.

@SuperEel22 Yet, you watch NRL... oh dear - that would have to be the funniest thing I've read on The Roar! :-D PS: I have more interest in watching my TV when the power is off, than watching any NRL .. does this mean NRL is rubbish?

I have more interest in the EPL than the A-League. The EPL is just lightyears ahead in terms of quality. I actually get bored watching the A-League, simply because they can barely string 4 passes together.

On the Sunday it rated 152k compared to warriors / canturbury with 167 and Freemantle Essenden with 235. Compared to the times those games were on with the 1am time Liverpool / Man City was on, I'd say that was a remarkable result. Agree with your first post - very exciting, but I'd multiply it by 100. But be careful not to hope too much - so close yet so far away - the next four games will be nerve wracking.

Not accounting for all those people who steam it online from a free, but less-than-reputable source, such as myself and at least 10 of my mates...

How happy am I in 2014? A Parramatta and Liverpool supporter! If only the ALP could get off the bottom of the ladder I would be in supporter heaven! Have not had such elation as a Reds fan since the day Craig Johnston scored in the FA Cup final.

Just a side note but brothers Toure Yaya and Kolo are fighting for the title on opposing teams I wonder if that's ever happened in EPL history before, who's Mum going for then.

Thanks WB good luck with the rest of the season. Stratty The Ref wanted to keep 11 or 22 men on the pitch, yes he was frightened to terminate Suarez from the field of play ..

Titus if you don't think that was a dive, then you would still believe in the tooth fairy. There have been yellows given out in the EPL this year for diving for more contact than that. The ref didn't have the kahuna's to dish out the second yellow which have been punished all year. Both commentators agreed too. Football needs to wipe out that kind of crap from players like Suarez and in leagues like La Liga, best way to do it is to punish for it, whether it be on the pitch or retrospectively. And how do you explain Skrtel's impersonation of playing a ruck man for the Sydney Swans? Poor refereeing on both occasions.

Interesting question Bondy, I have been a Liverpool supporter since I was a kid. I have a real passion for the Club and they are one of my favourite sporting teams. I love the Socceroos and have always been a strong follower. However this hasn't / didn't carry over to the NSL / A-League. I will keep an eye on the scores and go to the odd game but not an avid follower. In saying that I went to the recent Sydney derby and it was sensational. As far as Football goes it's Liverpool and the Socceroos.

No coincidence that the first season post SAF retirement, Liverpool may win their first Premiership. Fans of Brendan Rogers will obviously disagree.

SuperEel Does supporting Liverpool then make you watch the sport in Australia I.E. some A League final series perhaps or Grand Final ?. Would anybody care to comment on that question please ?.
