By Scott Allen / Expert

This week on The Roar Rugby Show I look at some of the detail from the Force match against the Waratahs and give you my views on Stephen Moore’s clash with Ed Quirk.

Sorry, yeah - I think they can bring the head up as long as they keep the bind. I was thinking of the classic head up, only bound by the hand type thing.

Wouldn't the No 8 still be okay as long as his whole arms were bound on?

When viewed in normal speed it just seems that he is lashing out trying to break Quirk's hold on his jersey, not the way that some with an agenda want to portray it . I don't know what refs and citing commissioners said, but it would appear they took the same view .

So what constitutes binding? You say moore didnt do a full arm bind but neither did quirk. The video is clear, Quirk is looking down and then moore grabs him, quirk looks up and grabs him. Nothing wrong with that in my mind.

I'm hearing you about one play maker Combesy. Initially we got some good results with KB as the second play maker and I started to think 'we may be onto something here'. But now I think he's been worked out to a degree and we lose more than we gain with him there. I'm keen to see a hard running, line bending, ball passing, tackling machine at 12. But who? :(

Gee do people even understand this. Funk as Jerry says this is barely a penalise able offenc, else the game turns into a ridiculous penalty fest. Quirk never grabbed Moore in retaliation. He grabbed him to prevent him defending the edge of the ruck. That has a material impact. Moore touching Quirk had zero impact. FOS was just stirring and my comment was said tongue in cheek.if you seriously think what Moore did was penalisable or is an offence which Wuirk was responding to, yo really don't understand the game at all. Personally I think Wuirk deserved a smack. It was hardly dangerous. Simmons and others do it and where is the outrage and demands of a card. Even as a one eyed reds fan, Jerry's comments must make sense. This faux outrage and BS hypocrisy is pretty silly immature and ignorant stuff for supposed rugby fans.

Bunyip, the answer lies in a rule that - when a player punches in an over-retaliation to being held, he should be binned, along with the instigator. Dumb that the puncher should walk while a holder plays on. It's a trick that too many cynics have profited from. Btw, there is a big difference between striking an arm, and punching a head.

He admitted he christened himself the Honey Badger after watching the doco - I would normally agree with Jerry but I like the Badger too much!

The standard of refereeing especially this year in super rugby has been atrocious. SANZAR would have to be the most unprofessional regulator of any sport on the planet. This situation does not look like it will be addressed and I fear that Super Rugby will soon degenerate into a farce. If it has not already. We have already seen many in South Africa and New Zealand calling for a change and a restructuring to enable a more localized competition and the disbanding of SR. I would love to see super rugby go on, However when the regulators continually display incompetence and let the game fall into disrepute, then a rationalization must take place for the good of the game.

The issue is in the backline where there are so many injuries. If anyone from the local comp was to come in it would be from the large number of players that the Reds have had in the wider training squad this year who already know the calls etc. Very hard for a player outside the wider training squad to come in from club rugby and jump straight in. However, with the return of Feauai-Sautia last week and Shipperley and Harris due back for the next match I think the crisis has probably passed. Given the returns Taulagi and Placid may not be required so there are still some backs left within the squad if there are further injuries.

Exactly swing your arms around and chop at the blokes arm that is holding you to get the refs attention, you don't then need to swing a punch in as well...yellow card. Scalk Burger did it the other week as well, chopped and swung his arms around and got the penalty, without the upper cut to the ribs.

Funk, I don't think I've ever seen a penalty given for incorrect binding in the manner Moore did. It's technically an offence, but realistically a ref is never gonna penalise that without some other factor to excerbate matters. And regardless the try doesn't stand because Quirk continues to hold onto Moore when he's attempting to disengage. Even if Moore's committed the first offence, Quirk has also offended so the try can't be awarded.

Steadying himself with a handfull of jersey? you can see in the clip that Moore maybe initially trid to steady himself but then grabs quirks jersey on the back and when Quirk gets good grip on Moore's jersey, that is when Moore chucks his little hissy fit to call attention to it. Once Moore grabbed Quirks jersey then he has comitted the first offence, so it really should have been a try.

C'mon FOS, you know Jerry has the right of this. In fact I thought Moore was just steadying himself :-). Either way as Moore wasn't part of the ruck, he never affected it or Quirk. He was merely looking busy so he wouldn't get bollocked by Fischer for standing around. Now considering he was neither jo

Great video scott once again! I didnt think you had to release a player from a ruck until that ruck was over? Also who was moore not able to tackle because of the holding? As soon as the ball had gone to the open side it should have been a penalty otherwise play on.

Moore should have been carded but wasnt. That is clear. Nobody can condone foul play or punching. The other issue is moore complicated :) Although quirk was holding moore at the ruck after moore let go I dont think that constitutes a cynical foul as moore was joining the ruck in the first place. Also, even tho moore was distracted he was never going to tackle genia on the other side of the ruck. If he wanted to move over there then genia would have scored on the other side. Its like didallowing a try for obstruction when the player was on the opposite side of the ruck to the ball carrier. Passive obstruction that would be called. SANZAR has set a dangerous precedent here. The sooner they do not control the referees the better for rugby!

Phipps needs to reign in the energy a little bit. He starts off really well, good passing and great attitude but he has a habit of letting his emotions get the better of his abilities, and as soon as you notice his angry eyes the passing goes to the dogs. It's almost the opposite of Genia who has a habit of dropping his shoulders, Phipps goes too far the other way and tries too hard.

really if i were in charge i'd just tell beale every so often just decide you're going to to the 12 crash ball and charge at the line. it would make it a lot easier for him to set up runners if dfence had to properly commit to him as a runner.

Agree with a lot of that Daws especially regarding Beale. He is trying too hard to be a 10. Foley must dominate that role and Beale must try and run through the line more often. Hodgson is playing career best footy. But for me, the biggest thing to come out of that match was "how bad is Nick Phipps?!?"... his service was absolutely apalling, his decision-making horrendous and his snipes from the back of the ruck absolutely non-existant. I dont rate McKibbin but surely hes the best of a bad bunch!
