[VIDEO] Adelaide Crows vs Greater Western Sydney Giants: AFL live scores, blog, highlights

By Josh / Expert

The Adelaide Crows host the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Adelaide Oval, the home side searching for their first win at the newly-renovated stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 1:10pm AEST.

It’s like the sequel to a horror movie for GWS, who were smashed by 22 goals by the Crows when they met in Round 7 of 2013. It was the worst loss of the Giants’ forgettable season, which they finished with a 1-21 record.

To make matters even more spooky the Crows have recalled tall forward Tom Lynch, who is playing his first game of the year after missing the first four rounds with a shoulder injury. Lynch had a blinder on that day in 2013, kicking a bag of 10 goals against the young Giants.

Giants fans should be buoyed by the fact they will be unveiling a goal-kicking match-winner of their own.

That’s right – no. 1 draft pick Tom Boyd is coming in to make his debut. At 200cm tall and 104kg, Boyd is AFL ready. Expect his debut to be a highlight of the week.

For the first time, we’ll see Jeremy Cameron, Jonathan Patton and Tom Boyd all playing in the same forward line. It’s a truly terrifying prospect, and if the Giants can find a way to make it work, they’re a potentially unstoppable force.

The Giants have three confirmed outs, with Jacob Townsend and Liam Sumner omitted and Heath Shaw missing the game with a hamstring injury. In addition to Boyd, the Giants will be bringing in Devon Smith, who missed last week due to suspension, and Zac Williams, who will play his first game for the year.

We’ve seen a lot of improvement from the Giants this year – they actually sit higher on the ladder than Adelaide, who’ve had a rough start.

The Crows are the more experienced, more mature team, which makes them the favourites, but the Giants could get the jump on them. You can certainly expect a more competitive effort than last year.

Adelaide by 24 points

Good win by the Crows and great to see Danger back and having an impact. It'll be interesting to see if they can produce this kind of performance against more experienced sides as the year goes on.

Comprehensive win for the Crows, winning the disposals 429-330, Clearances 40-31, Inside 50s 54-47, Contested Possessions 129-117. Patrick Dangerfield has the three Brownlow votes locked in after a 33-disposal, 5-goal game. Scott Thompson had 38 disposals. Josh Jenkins kicked four and Matthew Wright had 3. Matt Crouch had 28 disposals and might have earned himself a Rising Star nomination, but he was subbed off at three quarter time which may hurt his chances. For the Giants Stephen Coniglio had 29 disposals, and Josh Kelly, Jed Lamb and Jeremy Cameron each kicked multiple goals.
