Thaiday out, Gillett in for Kangaroos

By The Roar / Editor

The representative upheavals have already begun for the Australian and City sides. Stay tuned to The Roar for all the injury updates and to have your say.

Matt Gillett will make his Australian debut after fellow Brisbane Broncos backrower Sam Thaiday was ruled out of the match against the Kiwis next week.

Thaiday has been battling injury at club level as well, missing the last two game for the Broncos with a calf injury.

The full release from the NRL is here:

“Brisbane Broncos forward Matt Gillett will make his Kangaroos debut in Friday night’s Rugby League Test against New Zealand at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.

Gillett, who joined the Holden Kangaroos in camp this morning, will replace Broncos team-mate Sam Thaiday, who has been ruled out of the Test with a calf injury.

Cowboys centre Brent Tate will join the squad as 18th man.”

Meanwhile, Gold Coast playmaker Aidan Sezer became the first player to withdraw from the City-Country clash, replaced by Bulldogs halfback Trent Hodkinson.

Full release from the NSWRL here:

“Gold Coast Titans five-eighth Aidan Sezer has today been ruled out of the City Origin team.

His place in the squad has been taken by Bulldogs player Trent Hodkinson.

An 18th man for the side will be named at a later date.”

Don't Fiji take on Samoa on Saturday in the Four Nations qualifier? Long live internationals.

An interesting week's football coming up, not! The test on Friday night and City/Country on Sunday. The test is fine but City v Country has seen its day. It is supposed to be a trial for state selection which in turn is a trial for Australian selection but since the test is on first, what's the point. Crowds supported the concept because it was country based players against city based players. Always the hope of a win against the city slickers.

I wonder if any other Kangaroos will pullout. The most interesting selection since Paul Conlon on the wing for the Ross having never been selected for NSW...
