Does Blake Ferguson deserve another chance?

By Hayley Maher / Roar Pro

Blake Ferguson working in a community based role for the Sydney Roosters. That’s not something I thought I’d ever hear.

I’m a big believer in second chances, however Ferguson has already had his second chance and blew that as well.

I understand Ferguson needs money to live and is entitled to work, but in the NRL?

How many workplaces would sack someone and then hire them in a different department? I highly doubt any reputable corporate workplace would do this.

I was very critical of the way Blake Ferguson and his lawyer, Adam Houda, handled the situation after Ferguson was found guilty of indecently assaulting a woman in 2013. I didn’t believe Ferguson took accountability of the situation. You can’t be too remorseful if you’re blaming others for the position you’re in.

Ferguson converted to Islam in late 2013 but has since been seen out drinking. That, to me, doesn’t seem like someone who should earn back NRL fans’ trust and respect.

I don’t think Ferguson deserves another chance in the NRL. We have players running around who have done worse in the past, but that was under a different administration. Those players should be considered lucky that their punishment was handed out under leaders who were afraid to make a stand.

I do have to give credit to the Roosters for making this very strategic move. With Anthony Minichiello close to retirement, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be taking Mini’s spot at the back which leaves a spot open on the Wing.

I assume the Roosters’ plan to fill that spot with Ferguson, which is why they have hired him in a back office role. They don’t need him just yet – not that they can sign him until he’s finished his education and rehabilitation courses anyway – but they will need him in the future.

I’m sure that there was a hand-shake agreement between the Roosters and Ferguson that if they employ Ferguson now, he will sign with the Roosters when the NRL agrees to re-register his contract.

By employing Ferguson, the Roosters have effectively taken him off the market. A terrible PR move by the Roosters, but a smart move football-wise.

Surely this has to be Ferguson’s last chance. Time will tell whether he’ll make the most of it.

Absolutely right. I have many christian and jewish acquaintances who portray themselves as such but in reality their practices couldnt be farther from the truth.

Think this article shows you have a very good understanding of the situation. Well summed up, 100% agree with what you're saying.

Ferguson has shown zero remorse for what he has done. The guy has either no morals or is an a complete dope.Either way the roosters can have him. The guy may have the physical talent . But without a brain he will amount to nothing.

He deserves a second chance, infact everyone of you deserve a second chance in everything in life. I just hope he learns from it and be a better player. As for me, I still want to see him play again soon.

Mate i was a bouncer for 15 yrs on and of things i saw from the blue collar worker to weekend warriors make this incident look tame, however some of these people were only leaders of the community not in the public eye and the only punishment they got was banned from their fav club. If he wasn"t a footballer nothing would have been done,a drunk is just that someone where the piss has taken over there persona and they end up doing things they would not normally do .

Since he's convicted of indecent assault I don't think he's allowed to work with children? Why would they want a guy like that working with their young guys are they nuts?

Greenberg proven to been found innocent and knowing nothing by the way. But I guess you are part of the many that read the promoted articles on main news sites but then never read the ones that prove his innocence later on. Media hacks accomplished their task once again due to the ignorance of fans. Also, to your original comment, no one thinks Robert Lui deserved a second chance, but does that mean we should make the same INCORRECT decision again? Let's continue to make the same mistakes just because we've made them before.

Lol! Sorry I live a sheltered life because I don't assualt random girls while I'm out having fun. They need to make an example under the current administration. I agree others should have had the same done eg, Robert Lui but they can't change the past, they can however make the right decision now. I bet Union wanted nothing to do with him, why else is he taking up a community and development role.

Went from" I'm a roosters fan but personally hate the idea of the chooks signing Ferguson." to Ferguson's mouthpiece in a few posts, nice. Just admit it, you follow a club that would sell its soul to the devil (again, if you could) in order to achieve a profit for uncle Nick.

Like the Rorters give a flying for the integrity of the NRL. And Gyng and the rest of 'em pretty much only care about themselves. Should be in politics.
