The most hated players in the NRL

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

Who is the most hated player in the NRL?

Every fan has their favourites and their villains, but here are my top five players I love to hate.

5. Billy Slater
The best fullback in more than a generation but sails close to the wind on many an occasion with regards to his on-field conduct.

He doesn’t mind sticking the boot in when a opposing player is trying to score and then pleads his innocence in a performance Robert De Niro would be proud of.

Widely regarded as a grub south of the border. Widely regarded as a god north of the border. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Blues fans of course!

4. Adam Blair
You have to really have a laugh at the Tigers for recruiting this ‘footballer’. He was a thug in Melbourne and is a bigger, lazier thug at the Tigers, who earns a motza for doing nothing or being suspended. It will be interesting to see what happens to Blair once his contract at the Tigers runs out. Is there another club stupid enough to take a punt on this loser?

3. Willie Mason
Big Willie has had a chequered career at a number of clubs and is the textbook definition of an enigma. When he puts in, he is effective and damaging, but when things aren’t going his way, he can be a liability on the field and a cancer off the field. Just ask the Roosters and Bulldogs, although Knights fans are loving big Willie at the moment.

2. Michael Ennis
A serial pest at several clubs and a player that knows the definition of niggle. Just ask Nathan Hindmarsh. Ennis got under Hindy’s skin last year to the point where the usually placid Hindmarsh was ready to start swinging at Ennis. That alone gets you a high ranking and if we were to ask referees who their most hated was, we’re sure Ennis would be top of their list as well. Thank god he’s leaving the Bulldogs

1. Jamie Soward
A contentious winner? Hardly. Dragons fans are happy to see the back of him and it remains to be seen what Panthers fans think of him. Soward seems to be the most hated player in the NRL. He comes across as a whiny sook on the field and quite petulant off it. One and the same really. Well done Jamie. You’ve taken out this year’s inaugural award for the NRL’s most hated player.

Ennis, Bird & Watmough ... most of the time you have to wonder how they keep a straight face with their looks of innocent children during a match. Although highly competitive & passionate, their urge to milk a penalty or constantly complain & plead with the refs, etc makes them ... well just plain annoying. Don't know any of them and doubt many do, so can hardly pass judgment on their characters. They're probably great blokes off the field but perception via the TV is, well ... everything ... or just nonsense. C'mon Gus, hurry up, it's your shout. What, you are? Poor ol' Wabbits.

He is referring to his so called "defection" to play for QLD when he is from bowraville. Nothing to do with the storm...

How is he a traitor? Not his fault the Storm salary cap got screwed and they had to let some big players go. Because of him leaving Storm were able to keep Slater, Cronk and Smith and win the premiership a few years later. He was a great servant for the Storm and the Storm administration are the true traitors.

I'm not sure about Mason anymore. He's definitely less hated now, but I think because he grew up a bit people are seeing the good side of him. I'm a Souths fan and I'm loving seeing him play! Slater takes the cake for me

Open cheque book from Packer lolol..............Packer has never been associated with Manly mate, rather the Roosters. Get your facts straight before opening your small mouth!

Blair is definatley worth the coin happy to say it on record, watch the pressure on every kicker this year and watch the rest of the pack emulate his agro I think he's been the biggest winner of Marshall moving on he just has to play angry and direct, the fact that every 6 or 7 has been leaving lichart with a limp makes him my favorite person to watch defend.
