The NRL's top 10 tries of 2014

Some unbelievable performances have happened throughout the season, providing season 2014 with many highlights already.

I have listed the top 10 tries of the year so far.

10. Jarryd Hayne versus Sharks – Round 9
A classic Jarryd Hayne play – providing a trademark pass to create the opportunity and then backing it up to beat four players on his way to the line.

If Jarryd Hayne continues to provide these sorts of moments, Parramatta fans will be seeing their team play in September.

9. Luke Brooks versus Titans – Round 2
The young sensation, who is often compared to the immortal Andrew Johns, has been brilliant with the number seven on his back in 2014. His combination with James Tedesco before his injury was very exciting.

The combination with Tedesco in this try shows the exuberance of the pair and how much they enjoy playing alongside each other.

8. Matt Moylan versus Knights – Round 9
Without a doubt the luckiest try on the list, Moylan’s ‘never give up’ attitude and determination was on display.

The Panthers are continuing to surprise fans in 2014, sitting in third place after 11 rounds. Matt Moylan has continued to exceed expectations at the back for Penrith.

7. James Maloney versus Sharks – Round 7
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s unbelievable footwork was at full display to set up Maloney’s first try of the year.

Roger’s display is once again showcasing his skills for the impending move to fullback. It’s this kind of play that has Roosters fans excited for the future of the number one jersey.

6. Daniel Tupou versus Eels – Round 6
This try is fantastic for many reasons. The Roosters were in dire trouble and needed someone to provide the spark, so up came Tupou who beat four Parramatta players including the New South Wales fullback, Jarryd Hayne.

Daniel Tupou is usually known for his aerial ability, but his speed and strength were on show for this try.

5. Shaun Johnson versus Tigers – Round 4
This try was unexpected for all fans. With the half time siren sounding, fans were thinking the Tigers would just take the hit-up and go into the sheds. Although the movement that followed left the players, fans and coaches shocked at what happened.

Shaun Johnson’s ability to support the play and wait for the whistle helped him score this try.

4. Young Tonumaipea versus Dragons – Round 6
The best finish of 2014, as controversial as it might be, provided young Tonumaipea with the highlight of his career so far. With the game on the line, players would try anything to score, and no games this season compare to this try.

The flurry of passes to lead to the game-winning try was one of the best tries all year.

3. Brett Morris versus Sharks – Round 3
An unbelievable aerial effort by Brett Morris provided us with a lookalike David Nofoaluma try from 2013. The ability to get the ball down was extraordinary.

Brett Morris’ effort defies belief and will be on highlight reels for years to come. The Dragons need more of this to become a real force in the competition this year.

2. Semi Radradra versus Broncos – Round 5
Semi Radradra, a man who is still learning the game, provided one of the best efforts of the year. To have the ability to take on, and beat, Ben Barba that close to the sideline, and get up and score shows a very talented athlete.

The “semi-trailer” is a fantastic talent and someone who will have the Parramatta wing spot for years to come.

1. Greg Inglis versus Broncos – Round 8
One of the greatest individual tries you’ll ever see. No other player could have outrun, outmuscle and score that try like Greg Inglis.

Inglis claims he was looking for his winger, Alex Johnston, in support but there was no way he could’ve scored that try the way Greg did. This try is compared to the greatest individual tries ever, and so it should be.
