Costa Rica have the chance to secure an unlikely clean sweep of Group D when they come up against England this morning. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of World Cup action from 2:00am (AEST)
Costa Rica entered the World Cup with a formidable task ahead of them. Group D saw them face the might of Italy, Uruguay and England.
At the start of the competition, their hopes appeared minute.
But against the odds they have prevailed, conceding just one goal so far on their way to the top of their group.
In their final match they come up against England, a team playing for nothing but pride following losses in their opening two matches.
Not to mention the allegations attacking the devotion of their players that have emerged in recent days. The British media has erupted over the past 48 hours after it came to light that some English players did not want to play for England.
Needless to say, the team appears to be in complete disarray and all eyes will be on how they bounce back from their respective beltings on the field and in the press.
With the reality of another group stage exit already hanging over their heads, England have nothing to lose but more respect of their countrymen – something they will be desperate to cling to.
CATCH UP ON HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY 10 OF BRAZIL 2014
With their advancement to the Round of 16 already secure, and their first knockout match up against the qualifiers from the less than formidable Group C, Costa Rica could not be blamed for lifting their foot off the accelerator for this match and ensuring that their key players are ready and able to fire come the second half of the competition.
That being said, how could a team that was not expected to succeed let go of the precious momentum they currently possess?
Very different motivations will drive England and Costa Rica in this match, but one thing is for sure, we are set for another highly entertaining match of World Cup football.

I know that England were already going home, but just wanted to mention that the high attrition rate of the European sides continues: Italy England Spain Croatia

Everyone watching the much more important other game. Much better finish too! Gee Roy doesn't interview well. Pleased they've given the fans something to cheer about? How far can England fall under him?

THREE MINUTES to be added! England have a corner.. Gerrard steps up to take.. can the captain get one final hurrah? It was knocked down by Cahill but heaved away by Costa Rica.. into the path of Urena who is ushered away from the goal by Shaw. CRC 0 ENG 0

Free-kick and once again, you won't be surprised to hear, it came to nothing. We're petering out to a dull 0-0.

There is a GOAL.. in the other game. Diego Godin with the FIFA inspired back-header to put Uruguay it looks, into the round of 16.

Cheeky Wayne. Fresh from his first World Cup goal in the last outing against Uruguay.. Rooney decides to test the walkabout Navas with a chipped effort that needed saving. The corner much like the rest in this contest.. doesn't come to fruition.

Following suit like a style obsessed teen girl, Costa Rica make their third and final change. Borges is OFF replace by Barranes.

Gamboa slid in from a reverse ball that saw Raheem Sterling in acres of the space. The winger stepped on the ball keeping it in before Gamboa put it out for the corner. The corner went from one elder statesman to another, as Lampard got his head to the ball with no conviction at all. Roy Hodgson has emptied his bench now. Wayne Rooney enters the fray for James Milner.

Bolanos has been a livewire for Costa Rica since his introduction creating space down the wings in every attack. Their passing almost unlocked England there before a hurried clearance. We have a lovely round of applause for England's second substitution, as their captain Steven Gerrard is ON replacing Jack Wilshire. CRC 0 ENG 0

Sturridge once again, running at defenders looking to work an opening.. he was wedged between two defenders, as he fell with the defender getting a touch. Corner. It wafted into the mixer before Navas with a nervy clearance. England committed too many forward and the counter was on. They may have scored but for a timely tackle from the English defense. England have been involved in more 0-0 world cup draws then any other nation, and I'm growing less and less optimistic we're going to see the net ruffle.

Daniel Sturridge adds to his catalog of misses in this game. It was a lovely one-two between Wilshire and himself before he side-footed it around the left post. Meanwhile Costa Rica have made a second sub. Joel Campbell is OFF replaced by Uranas.

Bolanos has brought some vigour into the Costa Rican play again.. he had a long range effort that Foster scrambled well too then was almost in behind down the wing. CRC 0 ENG 0

SUBSTITUTION: Bolanos is ON replacing Brenes Meanwhile Lampard with his 1578th free-kick attempt this half.. it was a daisycutter that clattered into the wall and back out. England also with a substitution: Adam Lallana is OFF replaced by Raheem Sterling.

Fresh from his booking, Lallana motors down the wing, beating his man with ease. He tried playing in Sturridge in similar circumstances to England's goal against Italy. In this moment though, Navas was first to it. CRC 0 ENG 0

Adam Lallana quickly joins Barkley in the book. His rash challenge earning him a YELLOW CARD. This game is devolving a tad here.. CRC 0 ENG 0

Excitement! Action! Drama! Yellow Card! Ross Barkley worked his way into the referee's notebook after his tugging of the shirt of a Costa Rican opponent, to prevent the counter. CRC 0 ENG 0
