Sydney Roosters vs Cronulla Sharks: NRL live scores, blog

By Alan / Roar Guru

It’s been another horror week off the field for the Cronulla Sharks and they will be keen to end it on a winning note when they tackle the Sydney Roosters tonight. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEST.

The sacking of Todd Carney has once again cast a cloud of doom across Cronulla, despite the fact the club recorded their best win of the season against Brisbane last week.

Trailing 22-nil, the Sharks produced a superb fightback and scored 24 unanswered points to secure a fantastic victory for the club.

It’s a great pity that the sacking of Carney has robbed the Sharks of what should have been a good week in the lead-up to tonight’s clash against the Roosters. Instead, Cronulla approach tonight’s game as a team decimated by controversy and Origin selection.

Missing for the Sharks tonight is NSW captain Paul Gallen, who is on Origin duty. Luke Lewis is also out of the side to face the Roosters. Throw in Carney’s absence and the Sharks could be in for a long night against the reigning premiers.

Sydney are coming off a defeat to the Sea Eagles but they improved immeasurably on recent performances to almost snatch a win at Brookvale Oval.

If the Roosters can continue to build on last week’s effort, they should win tonight and win well.

The form of halves Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney continues to be up and down in season 2014. Pearce had a good game last week, setting up a try and scoring another in the second half. He did however kick out on the full in the second half and this led to a Manly try.

Maloney meanwhile struggled to fire and missed a simple conversion that would have leveled the scores against Manly.

If Maloney and Pearce can just play the percentages effectively, then they should do enough to guide the Roosters to a comfortable win.

Roosters by 18.

I am not a Sharks supporter but I reckon that the playing group and management deserve praise for performing how they have with what they have had to face. They have shown pride and passion and are a credit to the game. I also congratulate all you Sharks supporters who have stuck by your team through all the shit you have had to endure.

Who would have guessed it. Yet another engineered drama brought to us by 21st century fox. Does anyone take the NRL seriously anymore.

Big effort by the Sharks. It's amazing how teams can rally during times of adversity. The result has left me with two thoughts: 1) Why isn't that sort of effort applied each week by the sharks 2) What is going on at the roosters? They have stripped all credibility from the term "beating the defending premiers".

Congrats Sharks. What a gutsy effort and what a reward for the supporters who have stuck by them. Buggers even beat us in the NSW Cup to make it a good day for them all round. Enjoy!
