Cahill's stunner fails to claim World Cup prize

By News / Wire

James Rodriguez’s volleyed goal for Colombia against Uruguay has been voted best goal of the World Cup by users of FIFA’s website.

The goal in the last-16 match beat Robin van Persie’s header for the Netherlands against Spain in the vote by more than four million FIFA.com users.

Rodriguez also earned third place for his chipped goal in Colombia’s 4-1 defeat of Japan.

Socceroo Tim Cahill, who many thought would claim top prize after his stunner against the Netherlands in the group matches, failed to place in the top three.

The voters got it right. It's what appeals. Its pretty dumb arguing such a huge vote from a country which has no star soccer players on the international front.

So ,do you think that Australia deserved a " pass mark" for their performance or not? I don't!! I think that they were very disappointing. If it wasn't for Tim Cahill it would have been a disaster. Ange has a big problem, as do the coaches of the other Asia representatives. Let's not sugar coat our performance. Being ranked 30th is being kind!!

This was the case in 1950, when India qualified for Brazil but withdrew because they wanted to play barefoot. Was only citing history. This was the one and only time they have ever qualified.

Despite Spain beating us 3-0 I think they were the worst team of the tournament tbh.

Can you call it a fluke if that's what he was trying to do? It's not like when Beckham took a corner and it bounced past everyone into the goal.

Jack from memory Australia would be ranked 30 as I'm sure that both Cameroon and Honduras (only other nations with 0 points) had worse goal difference then us.

Who or what is Ishant? It had better not be another sportsbet clone - sports betting is an ugly pain in the backside.

I did forget to mention Cricket though my name and the mention of dreaded Ishant should have been enough for anyone to know about the sport i was talking. As for Indian football,it is in shambles! We have now an IPL style league with oldies/retirees of EPL as players and failed managers managing them. At the same time the original I-League (with the iconic clubs) keep on struggling to survive. With the alarming dearth of talent and infrastructure in Indian football, i don't think India will be able to qualify for the world cup in the next 20 years and beating Australia in football remains a distant dream.

Ok. So the goal of the tournament wasn't Tim's. Fair enough, but there were not too many better!! I would be more interested in the assessment of all teams at the World Cup, ranking them from 1 to 32. Just wondering where Australia would rank? We gave ourselves a " pass mark ". Just wondering what the rest of the world thought of our performance.

Yes they do! Did they release some new convicts from the jails in Australia? P.S.- I don't like to be obnoxious but i won't be afraid of fighting fire with fire. And btw if you read Indian past you'd realize we were the "golden bird". Hell even Columbus wanted to reach India...shame he was such a poor sailor he ended up at Bahamas and well the Britishers took over the country because of their superior Navy and the advent of gun powder in wars. They divided(Pakistan formation on religious ethnic lines) and looted India and left us in shambles in 1947. The fertile lands went to Pakistan and the country didn't even have any food. I guess we have come a long way in 67 years. But i guess you could care less about Indian history and would be more focused to call racial prejudices against me. I don't mind it well but i can give back too.
