Help the Greater Sydney Rams build One Family

By Greater Sydney Rams / Roar Rookie

From the outset, the Greater Sydney Rams have adopted the ‘One Family’ value, as we build our presence on the Australian professional sporting landscape.

We see that value in the following way, outlined on our website.

“All are welcome. Rugby is a game for everyone, all shapes and sizes, backgrounds, origins and ages. It unites cultures and communities. Rams home games are in your backyard four times a year only! And we encourage our community to vigorously support and participate.”

As we head into the inaugural Buildcorp National Rugby Championship season, we want you, our foundation members and fans, to help define One Family.

Our catchment area, the western and southern corridors of metropolitan Sydney, is a massive footprint that represents as good a snapshot of modern multicultural Australia as you’ll find. We’re from an area of vastly varied cultures, beliefs, lifestyles and prosperity.

One Family is our challenge to create the most culturally diverse team and fan-base in the competition. Our playing roster includes players from Indigenous, Pacific Islands, Cook Islands and Maori backgrounds, among others, and the Rams want to tap into those rich rugby cultures and tell all the stories of the players and their families.

Just as rugby is a game for all shapes and sizes, the Greater Sydney Rams want to be the team for all rugby lovers. We want the diehards. We want the rusted-ons. We want the rugby-is-in-my-blood types.

But we also want the curious, the fair-weathered, the back-in-my-day former park legends, the disgruntled and the what-the-hell-is-that-game question-askers.

From the schoolboy player and his proud grandparents in Epping, to the young girl in Campbelltown with an Olympic rugby dream; from Penrith to Cronulla and all points between, we are willing, able and ready to cater for everyone.

The Greater Sydney Rams are the pinnacle of professional rugby in our catchment areas. We have the Waratahs, and of course we have the Wallabies, but for whatever reason, it’s not always easy to see them. The Rams are bringing professional rugby on the national stage directly into our community.

The whole essence of what the Rams are about is bringing parties together. From our five member clubs to our supporters from wherever you might call home, it doesn’t matter the background, the rugby knowledge, or whether you’ve played the game or not, it’s about coming together to enjoy our great game as equals.

And we’re quite serious and deliberate about that.

The very spirit of rugby is all about getting involved in the game, and enjoyment. Of acceptance and diversity – from our players, coaches, sponsors, and particularly our supporters. Whether you know every one of the 22 Laws of Rugby and all their sub-sections by heart, or you vaguely remember enjoying the game as a kid and haven’t seen it since… the Rams want to welcome everyone with open arms.

Our Foundation Membership has been well received so far, and it’s free for the first 5000 to sign up. And it’s the best way for you to save money on tickets. Our season passes represent outstanding value and significant savings, as do our ‘Mates Rates’ deals, where if you buy three, you’ll get one free.

If making noise is more your style, then The Horned Army is definitely for you, and they will certainly help us create a wonderful match day experience and atmosphere at Pirtek Stadium this season.

The Rams want you to help shape our identity, so that even as the names and faces may change from season to season, the team that we welcome out onto our home ground, wearing our jersey with the Ram on their chest, remains forever our team.

We have the biggest potential support population in the competition. Such a diversity of backgrounds, 33 wonderful players, five member clubs and One Family.

Check us out on Facebook and Twitter.

Good on him. I can easily see him being a long time 8 for the Waratahs. Gray, Hooper, Holloway might make a good unit one day soon. I'm really looking forward to Thursday night and the weekend. It'd be great if the rain cleared up by Thursday or so to allow some good rugby on the opening weekend.

Nice one for Holloway. As a fringe super rugby player this will be a great opportunity for him to show what he's got.

Boris where livestreaming is concerned, we are currently speaking with FoxSports re this and should have an answer by COB tomorrow. On your other comment, one of our fans recently posted on the Facebook page of our fan group the Horned Army that is bang on: I support two teams the RAMS and anyone playing the Stars. Thought you might like to know that Jed Holloway has just been announced as the Captain of the Rams for 2014.

We hear you Mike - just wanted the Roarers to have their say. We will be doing our very best to ensure that One Family of highly committed and motivated Rams ensure that a certain teams Stars do not align on September 13.

GSR I'm not from Sydney but am wondering how to see this weeks match. Is there any way of doing that? Streaming?

Ha ha! Yep GSR I reckon if you had one guess who the villains are you'd be right. They're just down the road from you and no one likes them. And hopefully we get to see them go down on Thursday night on fox.

By the way, on a more serious note, that is an excellent blurb above. Just perfect for generating some serious tribal support. Keep it up.

Do you really need to ask? One team that will be the equivalent of Manly in NRL or Collingwood in AFL - guess!

Thanks WallaTah, we are pretty excited too. Love your enthusiasm Mike but lets just see how it all pans out - whilst on the subject who do you consider to be the Villains of the NRC (if there is one)?

This will be a beautiful thing - one united rams family sobbing together after the mighty Villains smash them off the park! :D
