[VIDEO] Port Adelaide Power vs Richmond Tigers: AFL finals highlights, scores, blog

By Brent Ford / Roar Guru

MATCH RESULT:

The story of the game was Trent Cotchin deciding to kick against the breeze in the first quarter which saw the Power dominate from the beginning.

Their run and carry was massive and they look to be hitting their straps at the right time of the year.

As for the Tigers their run is over and in their last two matches of finals their combined loss is 103 points.

As Voss has highlighted post game they don’t work hard enough off the ball and it looked obvious today with the Power able to cut them open with run through the middle of the ground.

FINAL SCORE:
Power 20.12 (132)
Tigers 11.9 (75)

MATCH PREVIEW:

After nine wins in a row the Richmond Tigers will look to pull off an upset win against the Port Adelaide Power at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:10pm (AEST).

Two months ago they found themselves sitting near the bottom of the ladder and calls were being made for Damien Hardwick to be sacked.

Fast-forward to today and the Tigers will now play a do or die final against Port Adelaide in one of the most difficult tasks in footy.

Port have made the Adelaide Oval their “Portress” since they moved to the newly renovated oval this year and despite their up and down form in the latter half of the year they appear to be peaking at the right time, after giving the Dockers a run for their money in Perth last week.

CATCH UP ON THE LATEST AFL HIGHLIGHTS

It’s going to be a quite interesting to see how both these sides pulled up after last week’s game as both were physical encounters with both these sides needing to win.

Richmond left nothing in the tank in their pursuit of a spot in September only just sneaking past the Swans in Sydney.

Their late season revival has surely taken a mental and physical toll, the question will be whether they can sustain it?

As for Port, there is no doubt they will be feeling their road trip to Perth but they have the advantage of a boisterous home crowd.

There is already a bit of feeling in this game in terms of clash jerseys and I expect this to be a highly entertaining affair considering the shootout these two sides produced the last time out.

Team news:
Port Adelaide: Former Tiger Matt White has been declared fit to play this one. He was substituted last week as part of management of an ongoing groin issue but he will take his place this week.

This means that Ken Hinkley has close to a full list to pick from with Aaron Young to undergo a fitness test the only player sidelined at the moment.

It’s unlikely that those on the sidelines will break into the side with the Port Magpies not playing in the first week of the SANFL finals.

Richmond: Ty Vickery is also looking to get a call up but it will be a massive uphill task for him to break into the side after missing four weeks with suspension and then last week after not earning a re-call.

However it will be a tough ask for anyone to get a re-call into the Tigers line-up at the moment.

Prediction:
A close one will be in the books here with all things considered from the last time these two sides played.

It’ll come down to whether the Tigers learnt from the disappointment of last year’s elimination final lost, and whether the Power will be too good at home.

I’m tipping the Power in a tight one.

Power by 5.

Haven't heard that about Williams, but thought earlier in the year Hardwick should go to a director of coaching role and Williams match day coach. Hardwick has done some good things for Richmond and put some stability in the pace. Whilst replacing him is suggesting the opposite, I would keep him there and let Mark Williams do his thing. I put the improvement in the younger players down to Williams and I think he will demand more from the players.

I think the Crows are regretting not picking Hinkley either (got the wrong Geelong man) but it's funny what you say about Williams because I heard on the radio that he was credited getting Richmond back to basics which got them on their winning run.

Too many backward handballs to stationary players put Richmond under pressure. It was back to their early season style. Port cut Richmond apart by receiving handballs on the run, in more space and forward, creating the extra man. Richmond cannot tackle, Port just brushed them aside. Interesting that Hardwick blamed a lack of finals experience....did Port have much more?. Two years ago before Ken Hinkley took over, Port were at the bottom of the ladder. Hinkley didn't complain about the list, just put his head down and went about winning. Bet Richmond now regret they didn't select Ken as coach. Perhaps Richmond should appoint Mark Williams (ex Port) as match day coach.

Port near perfect today, that scoreline flatters the Tigers. Understandably, Port did put the foot off the accelerator in that last quarter. Can't wait for the Freo v Port match!

Why is that Joe b? All of Sydney, Hawthorn and Fremantle would have struggled against Port at home with a frenzied home support and with that first half effort let alone the 8th best team in Richmond. If anything Hardwick should be lauded (along with his players and staff) for getting the tigers to the finals with the horrible start they had. Lucky the Richmond board doesn't have you as a member.

Full Time, Power 20.12.132 v Tigers 11.9.75 Thanks to everyone who joined me today my best for today's game my best three are: Boak, Deledio and Gray. I'm interested to see how the Power's run goes at Patersons Stadium which doesn't have the width of the Adelaide Oval.

Best half of football I've seen this year. Richmond lucky that percentage means nothing in the finals, otherwise that game was going to get seriously ugly half way through the third quarter. Good luck Freo dealing with that next week. Great effort Port. We now have a genuine 5th contender for the flag again...
