Easts versus Souths in a clash of the titans

By Josh Allerton / Roar Guru

As a diehard Sydney Roosters fan, Friday night’s game was filled with excitement, nerves, anger and a hundred other feelings. But at full-time, while everyone was talking about a conspiracy, focus turned to next week’s clash against premiership favourites the Roosters.

NRL fans around the world will be tuning into this game for what should be a dream clash. Ultimate bragging rights are at stake for both sets of supporters.

So many significant stories will be shared in this game. It will be the first finals game between the two foundation clubs since the turn of the century, and the last time they met in sudden death was 1938.

It could be the last games we see from Anthony Minichiello, Sonny Bill Williams or Sam Burgess, while Minichiello will break Luke Ricketson’s club record for most ever games with the Roosters.

Is it the last time we witness Burgess line up against Sonny Bill Williams? Or will they face each other in rugby union? We’ll also see in-form halves Adam Reynolds and Mitchell Pearce square off for the first time since Round 1.

So who will lead their team into the grand final?

It’s the Burrow versus the Chookpen, and the atmosphere will be dynamite. This game has no reason to not be a sell out and we could see the biggest preliminary final crowd in history.

The Roosters are attempting to create history and become the first team to go back-to-back since the Broncos in 1992-93. With names like Pearce, Williams and Minichiello running around, this is their chance to stop Souths Sydney’s premiership charge.

The Rabbitohs have been waiting for this moment all year – another shot at redemption in a preliminary final. This is their chance, their moment, to finally reach the illustrious grand final for the first time since 1971. Greg Inglis, Sam Burgess and Issac Luke will do anything it takes to finally take their Bunnies to that moment.

The two foundation clubs, who played in the first Australian rugby league final, will be facing off 107 years later in an 80-minute battle to determine who will proceed to this year’s grand final.

What a game it will be. Everyone can feel the excitement building. Bring it on.

What has happened to the serial Rooster's pest Alan Fitzgibbon- he was not on the field in the match against Souths. It is about time he was hauled off the field with his never - ending coaching under the guise of being a trainer. Glad someone has finally woken up to his tricks- but it should have been the RL administrators.

I love it how here, and in the Telegraphs wrap up, there is still no mention of Penrith at all. They said Souths forward pack is the only one to challenge $ydney. Well the Roosters lost last week and gave up a 30 point lead this week. I honestly wish both could lose but I think Souths will get over the line in this match up. But in saying that I want the Roosters to win jus because Penrith would beat then again, I think they would struggle against Souths (but people also said Penrith would struggle against the Roosters)

I've always been interested to know which sydney teams could sell out ANZ in the prelim. Dogs v eel couldn't, tigers v dragons couldn't. I doub this will, but it should be considered a fail by the nrl (and probably the smaller rooster fan base) f they don't. I also noticed souths have the biggest Sydney core fan group but in broader appeal lose out to western teams. 70k would be a pass I guess based off last years minor premiership crowd of 60k. Will need neutrals to fill the final stands off the back of media frenzy

I'm a mad Souths fan and I can't wait for the game next week!!! Both sides are riddled with talent it's going to be a dead set cracker. Only thing better would have been for it to be the GF

yep, was hoping this was the GF. Both teams can put on a blitz, but the winner will be the 80 minute team, which both teams haven't shown yet. If either of these teams could blitz for 80 minutes they would be unstoppable. But " if " is the middle word in life!

Bunnies can win but I don't think they will. Frankly NQ are a tougher opponent than Souths. I don't think Souths would beat either Easts or NQ. No matter how much you say they will.

They should have. But were juuuuust not good enough. Only have themselves to blame but giving Easts a 30pt head start

Go the Bunnies premiers of 2014 and all that you have said MAX are my thoughts also. The Roosters have run out of luck and their cracks are as big as the harbour without the bridge. They were very lucky to win last night and the Cowboys were hard done by they should have won.
