All Blacks five-eighth Aaron Cruden will miss the Rugby Championship Tests against Argentina and South Africa for disciplinary reasons.
Coach Steve Hansen says Cruden went out drinking in Auckland on Friday night and didn’t fly with the team to Argentina on Sunday.
Hansen criticised the 25-year-old, who has been a standout performer for the All Blacks over the last two seasons.
“We are extremely disappointed at Aaron’s actions which are out of character. He is embarrassed at his actions,” Hansen said on the All Blacks twitter account.
“As a consequence of his actions, he has been left at home and will not join the squad for Tests against Argentina & South Africa.”
Cruden’s night out took place less than 24 hours before the team were scheduled to leave.
However, the flight was delayed because of mechanical issue and the team departed on Sunday morning.
Thirty-five Test veteran Cruden hasn’t been replaced in the 30-man squad, leaving Beauden Barrett as the likely starting No.10 against Argentina in La Plata on Saturday. Colin Slade is likely to win a place on the reserves bench.
Chiefs playmaker Cruden has started six of the All Blacks seven Tests this year, boosted by the absence of injured veteran Dan Carter.
He has scored 69 points with the boot, lifting him to 256 points in Tests, the fifth-most by an All Black.
He missed the Test against Argentina in Napier this month because of a chest injury, allowing Barrett to make his first start at first five-eighth.

Not sure how to break this to you fellas but the DOC advises - "The whitebait fishing season for most of New Zealand opens on 15 August and runs until November 30. " so a) we know where Beaver is, or b) most likely hes tied up. Still, if he hits his quota early (and why wouldnt a sharp shooter like him) he might be available for the EOYT.

I bet he wont be doing that again in a hurry. Fantastic example of the team is first no matter who you are. Irish

There are plenty of people writing Cruden off and calling for Barrett to get the gig fulltime, what is that based on? Barrett plays a role off the bench and does a great job but it is not starting a match. I think some of you are quick to forget he was dragged off the paddock in his last start because he couldn't nail his kicks which is his core role. Barrett is not there yet, he is a work in progress.

I don't mind Kiwis showing off about their team when they do it like that. Good one, Kiwi brother.

Nonu became 'stunning' this year only AFTER Hansen changed his position on SR form impacting on AB selection.

Really? I don't get that comment. This year Nonu was stunning for the Blues. Previously he was terrible for every franchise but this year one of their best backs.

It would be good if they rest him against Australia as well.

I know they are quite accurate, but it often gets quite scrappy with passing during games. It just isn't the most accurate form of passing, though it makes for a very interesting affair.

Cheers. Suprised the sites I read didn't report who else was there, or just mentioned them as 'team-mates,' with no names.

This incident strengthen the ABs with Slade getting some game time. Fair is fair, as Carter's body unlikely to make it to RWC

Taken from stuff.co.nz "They sat in front of the fire for about four hours, ordered fish and chips, burgers and the big Canterbury roast. The players had only a couple of beers each and the bill was about $80 each, he said Others at the bar included Aaron Smith, Brodie Retallick, Sam Cane, Kieran Read and Sam Whitelock." After the players left, Cruden was spotted later without his teammates at the Little Easy bar in Ponsonby. He was also reportedly seen at the Long Room on Ponsonby Rd.

BBA Nah not really. When AC played his first test he bombed it, was lucky to remain in the squad and eventually missed RWC selection altogether. He garnered Ted's eye by virtue of his exploits with leading the Jnr ABs to their respective RWC title.....which I might add, as captain, its another feather in his cap. Admittedly, he found himself in a caustic environment and only decided to leave, to a franchise that was below the Canes in terms of finals SR appearances, when his old Manawatu coach got the Chiefs head coach job and persuaded the young fella to gamble his career and havago in a new environment. The fact that the coach also managed to convince a certain Wayne Smith to join him in the coaches box, just raised the bar to another level and all of a sudden, Cruden's decision to switch franchises seemed a damn good idea. Yes, he has found success with the Chiefs that has borne fruit for him in the AB environment....but you have to give credit to the young fella for the decisions he made to make a go of it and pursue that success. But remember, Cruden's decision to leave not only bore favours for himself but also removed the possibility of him and BB fighting for the Canes FH position.....which we as AB supporters, find ourselves discussing right now except the position is ABs FH. So in 2011, Cruden was never anywhere in the pecking order for AB FH except to be No 4 or No 5. Fortunately for him and unfortunately for those chosen ahead of him, he got into the RWC squad through their injuries and turned on what I would describe as a masterly display in the final (till injury struck) when a week earlier he was deciding whether to go and watch a game let alone play in one. I dont consider myself as being harsh on either Cruden or BB but gee, all I'm saying is if anyone has proven their pedigree to be first or second choice AB, then Cruds has done that in my books and to think he's been doing it for the past 5-6yrs, since he first tasted international success as a 19yr-old up and coming leader of the game.

And I assume you mean throw? Most AFL players are very accurate over long distances with the handball, probably helped by the heavier ball. Given the explosive action and short wind-up that it requires, I have often wondered if anyone has ever tried it with a rugby ball rather than the big sweeping arm movement.

I assume you quote 'actor' as that performance was so unbelievably good it breaks the realms of what we previously thought of as 'acting' ?

"Cruden has a better pinpoint pass than most elite AFL players" Hope you meant kick. AFL players aren't renowned for their accurate passing. :P
