Brisbane City vs Queensland Country: NRC live scores, blog, stream

By Cam Avery / Roar Guru

Brisbane plays host to a local Queensland derby on Sunday as Brisbane City host Queensland Country at the famed former home of Queensland rugby Ballymore. Join The Roar as the action kicks off from 3:00pm (AEST).

Brisbane City look to be the stronger of the two teams and will head into the game as slight favourites. City have made a strong start to the competition posting three wins from four though as the humiliating loss to Melbourne Rising in round 3 showed, they are not without their weaknesses. Queensland Country on the other hand find themselves near the foot of the table off the back of their one win and three loss start to the competition.

Though form may not be the only baramoter in gauging this one with local derbies always offering that little something else. Passion will be running high and it may be the side who best controls their own passion and translates it into accuracy on the field that ultimately comes out as the victor on the day.

With no Queensland sides remaining in either the AFL or the NRL lets hope that this local derby stirs up some interest amongst Queenslands notorious sport lovers.

The two sides will be playing for The Andy Purcell Cup.

Key Players:
Expect the battle between Liam Gill and Beau Robinson to be torrid and whoever wins the battle at the breakdown between these two impressive players will give their side a huge advantage in the contest. Liam Gills combination with Jake Schatz should provide City with plenty of front foot ball.

And how can we not mention a certain player starting on the bench… That’s right, former golden boy Quade Cooper is back for his first match since early in the Super Rugby season and he will be eager to impress as he eyes a return to the Wallabies for the third Bledisloe test and the end of year tour.

Prediction:
Brisbane City should be too strong for their country neighbours. City by 15!

This match is being streamed live courtesy of Queensland Rugby, and they have generously allowed us to embed it on The Roar.

Gee that brought back some memories. Sitting on the hill on a Sunday arvo watching great running rugby. Enjoying a warm xxxx. Only difference was the son and nephews were with me. Great afternoon of rugby. The kids absolutely loved it. I fell in love with rugby going to Ballymorenwith my old man when I was a boy - and seeing how much fun the kids had today I can see why. My little fella wants to go again. THIS is what the aru needs to do more of - afternoon rugby so kids can get along. Rugby was good as well. Good to see Quade back as well. Say what you will about him as a player, but you can't ask more of him promoting the game. He was on the field for ages after the game signing autographs for kids and having photos. Much respect to him.

I watched the game from Hong Kong on my laptop as smart tv's still have an issue with live streaming but NRC fans will be the most tech literate by the end of the NRC season. Great to see a good crowd in attendance. Country scrum was smashed which gave City a deserved victory. I am so pleased that this competition is up and going. Fantastic live blogging by Cam Avery and Scott Allen. Final thing. For us expats living in Asia we crave our rugby so hats off to all Roarers for all the articles. Dan

Great game I was there and really enjoyed it the crowd was good, but I thought it would have been a lot better. I don't get how all the Reds fans are not turning up?

I haven't read all the comments below, but having just come back from the game, just thought I'd put in my two cents: 1.) Really decent crowd, one entire side grandstand and most of the hill were full, with a spattering of people elsewhere. 2.) Good quality rugby, with a balance of exciting back play and some tough mauling. Queensland City were rewarded for a dominant scrum display. 3.) Positive vibe from the crowd, with everyone I heard from pretty impressed with the caliber of play 4.) Day games are just tremendous! Plenty of families along, a beautiful day. All in all, plenty of 'that was great, we should come next game' going on. A total win of a day for the NRC I'd say!

The scrum has really let Country down, you cant compete when your scrum is getting demolished every time.

Knock on over the line. Country scrum 5 m from their line. No doubt a tight head here though!

Think it should now be obvious to all that QLD Country's recent good scrummaging was down to one player - Greg Holmes. They have been toweled up today without him there.
