Jez – The thing is they are trying to hit a moving target. MeRieght has a good head on his shoulders and is always looking for ways to improve his game so he can mix it on the world stage. The competition pushing his is not necessarily in AU.

Plus he finds the line a lot.

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

Good start to the year to see the Reds get over the Tahs. Metric for success from here is to lift, make winning a habit and beat some of the NZ SR teams. Go QLD!

Wright now there is a name I forgot over the break. Bringing up bad memories … hahaahahaha.

'A bit deflating': Headaches for Waratahs after Reds trial thrashing, Brumbies win after Force miss post-siren kick

A performa for the ages. The heritage of cricket in Australia is a testament to our wonderful sporting nation. Well done lads, you have done us proud!

CHAMPIONS! Head's heroic ton, bowling brilliance sees Aussies crush India for SIXTH - and best - World Cup win

Michael Hooper started the trend of kicking for the corner and not taking shot. The amount of times I have yelled at the TV for this when he was the captian is not insubstantial.

'Complete dismantling': Eddie apologises for World Cup debacle, Hoops calls out moment that summed it up

Frustrating that it was watching that game there were enough glimmers of growth and change there to think we can push higher (improvement in defence, blooding of young talent, change in selection approach, the attacking shape was sharp for good periods, lineouts worked well, etc). That game was affected by the injuries to our tight heads, these things happen and that needs to be factored in when assessing the performance. We will not win the RWC but we can make a semi and that is a gain.

'We can be a bloody good team': Eddie says he got selection right and Wallabies can still be RWC threat

Squad is starting to come together, hope they have some magic water in case of injuries! Slips and AAA had it easy against Argentina, not a thorough examination. If they cannot hold the scrum against the ABs with those locks behind them Thor and Bell should move into the starting roles. I would start Leota over Hollaway as Jed is not a long term solution and we need to be moving forward with our best (which IMO is not the current selection but that is another story). Similarly Faessler earns a start over Ullesse who has had plenty of time to stake a claim and has done very little with the opportunity (with BPA in the wings). Perese does not deserve to be there but injuries give him a chance, sad day for us as he will be exposed to often.

'Aussie bomb squad' to ensure Wallabies can pressure All Blacks until the end

Eddie wants some NRL talent, might be why he keeps talking about it as he wants some other bodies to select!

The Wrap: All Blacks and Wallabies show off all of Test rugby’s perfection and imperfections

Thanks for pulling this together Highlander. It is good to see the darkness back, the RWC is wide open and will be all the more compelling with a full strength ABs side in the mix.

There is a whiff of myth about this Springboks side - and they were badly exposed by All Blacks' coaching team

Was out to dinner Saturday night, checking the Roar match thread of course to see how the game was going. When I saw the result I mentioned it to the wife and she simply said that it must be the players. Her logic is that their coaches have always had success elsewhere so it comes down to the men on the field. Now while it is a complex situation and there are other factors at play I found it hard to fault her logic. A lot of the issues you see every game are execution errors (discipline, individual skills, dominating contact, etc). I was frustrated with Dave Rennie for the coaching errors (selections, late substitutions, etc) but feel that I should offer him some more leeway than I afforded him at the time. Based on my brilliant wifes analysis our basic issue is poor on field execution.

Very apt for scrote.

Spot on Don.

'Shows how far off mark we are': The side of Suli you never imagined seeing as Wallabies hope to rid 'demons'

Not a great game for a wallabies supporter but it did answer some selection and tactics questions (that I thought were already answered for the most part). Selections: 1. Wright is not at international standard, all rocks tonight just terrible. 2. Vunivalu is also not up to scratch. 3. Cater Gordon has real potential. 4. Front row we cannot do anything much about, we could not match them there but they are or are close to our best. 5. Michael Hooper not adding much anymore. 6. In general most of the team were missing in action. Tactics: 1. Kicking is still not right balance with contestable/chased kicks lacking, grubbers that were not an option, etc. 2. Breakdown work still not up to scratch. 3. We give away to many penalties still. 4. Contact and post contact work not up to scratch on both sides of the ball.

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

Mind games… that was what I was thinking about the dual captaincy announcement. Does it mean they will both start, etc. Either way exciting next 4 months.

Donaldson in as EIGHT uncapped players picked: Co-captains named for Wallabies as Eddie's first squad revealed

Eddie – what is your cunning plan? Start Slips as captain and Fraser at openside and then bring Hooper on later in the game to bring it home perhaps when you sub Slips off?

COMMENT: Eddie has made one huge gamble - and it's not the No.10 call - as he avoids ruthless Hooper decision

Jez your knowledge of Eddie’s utterances is impressive! Genuine kudo’s. I try to pay attention but the ADHD cuts in.

Copy that. Had not heard that comment from Eddie about Monsieur Skelton and Arnold. I think they just arrived in AU this week? It is tricky with the injuries to know who will be ready to rumble by the 9th. Also the tactics they want to play might influence some of the selections.

Lucky we are all selectors on the Roar!

What does this squad tell us about the game plan? Couple of lucky to be in (Donaldson, Vunivalu). Couple of unlucky left outs (LSL, Harry W). I would have thought Tupou was in the rehab group based on recent chat of no team training runs or live scrummaging.

Where does this leave us for a starting 15?
1. Slips
2. Porecki/Faessler
3. AAA
4. Skelton
5. Arnold (lineout caller)
6. Tom Hooper (based on Leota not having much game time)
7. Michael Hooper (should be Fraser based on form over incumbency)
8. Valentini
9. White
10. Cooper
11. Marika
12. Foketi
13. Ikitau
14. Nawaqanitawase
15. Wright

I seem to recall that the 2011/15 editions of TRC that were in RWC years the Wallabies benefited from NZ and SA resting players and prepping for the RWC, also the shortened version of TRC. Some other potential factors at play that may mean that TRC success might not translate into RWC success. Am discounting the 2019 version, seem to recall that there was some sort of disruption that year…

The Rugby Championship is a litmus test for Wallaby optimism

His english cousin Liam has also been doing very well in that respect as well.

ANALYSIS: The three tactical paths open to Eddie at the RWC - and the one that suits his cattle best

If we are looking at the style that will take us deep into the RWC then I would have to say that based on history you need a strong defense/territory style of game. Get down their end of the field, apply pressure through defense and wait for the errors. So 3 phase strike/kick would be the best choice from a tournament historical perspective. Your thoughts about the cattle are important where we need active defenders to make this work and that would mean you look at different players who have stronger defenses (e.g. anyone over QC 😂 ).

Ferret I tend to agree with your assessment. For me Geoff has read the tea leaves correctly. I also like that there are 2 french based players in there as a slight point of difference. With the addition of Skelton I think we have 2nd row covered (as well as with our combo 4/5/6 players). We have played best in recent history with QC, SK and MK in the team so for me these are no brainers.

Wallabies Giteau Law power rankings: The FIVE overseas stars needed to win the World Cup

What right wing tropes, you just cant handle the ism of personal accountability. Everyone who wants it already has the power to live a good and fruitful life including the aboriginals. BTW you continue to live up to your name.. a bland blend with no depth.

Rugby News: Ex-PM says RA has succumbed to 'moral blackmail' after 'regrettable' Voice stance revealed

Mate that is a dim view of a system that has lifted the most people to best lifestyle in history. People who live in this day and age all have a huge leg up and great opportunities. Sure there are some issues but I think the glass is half full and for the most part people get a good say in their own future. Look at the asians. They saw the opportunity and have worked to better their lives and dont ask for any quarter, a great example for the rest of us on what is possible with application.
