Liverpool are living in the middle of slump street at the moment with no immediate solution to put an end to their disastrous run of form.

They play host to a West Brom side this weekend who have put an end to their own bad start to the season and are now heading to Anfield on the back of a three game winning streak with their latest win coming by way of a 4-0 trashing of Burnley last Sunday.

Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Tottenham at White Hart Lane just over a month ago seems like a distant memory at the moment. After a host of new signings, things were looking very promising for the Merseysiders and it would appear that the Reds would be poised for another run at the title.

Those title run ambitions have been seriously dented and appear to be very distant at the moment as Brendan Rodgers has to figure out some way to get his team back on track.

Liverpool have lost three out of their last four games including defeats to Aston Villa at home, West Ham away and at Basel in the Champions League, all of whom were much less fancied.

Their latest defeat to Basel (who have also beaten Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham in recent years) was another example of Liverpool losing a game they should have won.

Basel were tenacious and won the game off the back of a scrappy Marco Streller strike but nevertheless, were trashed 5-1 by Real Madrid just two weeks later.

Their one win from their last five, came against Champions League newcomers Ludogorets Razgrad in a 2-1 win at Anfield but even that was unconvincing as they won the game off the back of a 90th minute Steven Gerrard penalty.

It’s not just one problem for Liverpool, it’s many problems.

New signing Mario Balotelli has been wasteful, scoring one goal from 67 shots in his six appearances. Lallana has shown some spark at times but not enough to be a major influence.

Coutinho has been wildly inconsistent and there over-dependence on Raheem Sterling is glaring to say the least.

Liverpool have counter attacking weapons and have enough talented players to create goals but it’s their play on the other side of the ball which has proven to be even more alarming.

Basel’s goal, to no surprise, came by way of a set piece, which Liverpool have defended atrociously in recent weeks and once again failed to make the proper adjustments to defend dead ball plays as they were too slow once again to react to the loose ball.

They are at Anfield this weekend where they are traditionally very tough to beat, but they are coming up against a Baggies side that is enjoying a great run of form.

Baggies’ striker and England U21 starlet Saido Berahino has come into his own this season scoring five goals in eight games as well as three in his last two.

Berahino scored twice in their 4-0 win against Burnley, a win that was West Brom’s biggest in over two and a half years and the first time they recorded back-to-back Premier League wins in over a year.

Despite their recent run of good form, the Baggies are still 7:1 outsiders to pick up all three points on Sunday and probably undeservedly so.

West Brom have won four of there last 10 games including two wins at Anfield. Their 4-1 drubbing at Anfield (which included a Luis Suarez double) last year may still be fresh in the mind of the bookies as any other explanation as to why the Baggies are 7:1 underdogs is simply baffling, especially given Liverpool’s recent woes.

I expect West Brom to get a draw as I am not convinced Liverpool will be able to get it together and make the necessary adjustments in time to turn things around.

Full Time - LIVERPOOL 2-1 WEST BROMWICH ALBION There is a lot of things Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers would have liked to have seen from his side today before the internaional break. A tighter defence and a clean sheet, a goal from either Mario Balotelli or Rickie Lambert and more creativity from the likes of Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling but above all the Northern Irishmen got what his side desperately needed... All Three Points! After a cagey opening in which both sides struggled to get going, Liverpool where the first to side to kick into gear as they took the lead on the stroke of halftime through some brilliant interplay between Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson as Lallana fired the Reds to a 1-0 lead. Prior to Lallana's opening goal Liverpool had looked the more ominous of the two but were failing to fire once again in the final third. Newcomer Rickie Lambert made his starting debut for the Reds in place of the wayward Mario Balotelli but the former Southampton player struggled to get going early on despite no shortage of enthusiasm. Balotelli would make an appearence later on but it was the same story as many of his other Liverpool appearances, flashes of class marred by spans of inconsistency. He did appear to be more engaged and did some nice things but never really got going. Lambert was lively but lacked the sharpness to finish off chances as he was dispossessed and just a second behind on a number of plays. Henderson and Lallana were Liverpool's best today as both looked extremely dangerous and were at the heart of everything Liverpool did today with Henderson being named Man of The Match at games end. Both got on the scoresheet and both were instrumental in the Reds first Premier League win in over a month. While Liverpool still have some question marks at the back, they will be pleased to finally get out of their recent rut and the win will give them some confidence as they head into the international break. For the Baggies it was a tough day as they were never really able to insert dominance or gain ascendancy. They had their chances and their midfield looked strong, especially defensively, but were unable to convert chances into goals. Berahino scored the lone goal form the penalty spot and was the Baggies best on the day as he constantly troubled Dejan Lovren who is sure to have nightmares about the lively England U21 international. Unfortunately for West Brom, Beranhino was the only real Baggie to cause the Reds any trouble and as a result West Brom were fairly one dimensional in their play. Like many teams that play Liverpool they looked to be strong defensively and break on the counter, which at times they did both very well, but unfortunately they did not trouble Liverpool enough to get a result from Anfield. The Premier League will take the week off next week as European football succumbs to the international break and therefore there will be no live blogs next week. But be sure to return in a fortnight's time as we will be bringing you more of the best from European's football most entertaining league.

Thanks for the commentary Jack. I was hoping Liverpool would at least get held to a draw in this one.

92 - A wasteful ball comes in from Gamboa as Mignolet deals with it easily. Liverpool attempt to hold on and it could be the last chance for the Baggies. Liverpool move the ball up field and manage to find Balotelli who shows a glimpse of his strength and power and gets a shot off but its straight at the keeper. Promising signs from the Italian despite not being able to get on the scoresheet. LIV 2-1 WBA

89 - Some nice interplay from Lucas and Gerrard see's Lucas shape to shoot but his shot goes well over the bar. There is four minutes of added time and there are some nervy faces around the ground as many wait in anticipation, especially given last week's extra time slip up. LIV 2-1 WBA

87 - Liverpool look set to shut up shop for the day but are put in some trouble after a Morrison cross is put in a dangerous position as it goes untouched across the face of goal. No danger as there was no West Brom player to pounce but further evidence of Liverpool's struggle to deal with balls from wide areas. LIV 2-1 WBA

81 - A nice passage of play from West Brom is ultimately wasted after Sebastian Blanco see's an opportunity for a long range goal but his shot is speculative and ends up drifting miles away from the goal. Wasteful shot but good sign of intent from the Baggies with just over ten to go LIV 2-1 WBA

78 - Balotelli gets his first chance of the match as the ball falls to him just outside the box. He takes a touch and hits it on the half volley but it never bothers Foster in goal who deals with it comfortably. LIV 2-1 WBA

76 - Liverpool continue to try and attack through Lallana down the left hand side who brings it to the by line and lofts it in trying to find Balotelli. The ball can't find the Italian but it make sits way to Sterling on the right hand side of the box who squares it to Gerrard who hits it first time but it goes straight at Foster in goal. 73 - Liverpool are looking to get Balotelli involved but West Brom have proven to be tough to break down defensively despite conceding 2 goals. West Brom still very much in this game and are continuing to create chances as Chris Brunt crosses the ball in and finds Berahino who is unable to get any real power behind his header. Plenty of gaps in that Liverpool defence that can be exploited, Baggies just need to try and find ways to exploit them. LIV 2-1 WBA

69 - West Brom playing some nice possession football and are starting to get the ball into some nice places. The Berahino vs Lovren matchup is seeming to work in the favour as the Croatian seems to be having some trouble sticking with the Baggies frontman. LIV 2-1 WBA

65 - Sterling get the ball on the right wing and takes on Lescott gliding past him with some neat dribbling, he make shis way towards goal and shoots of his left but the shot is blocked. Liverpool are starting to pick up the pace and the intensity has picked up on the field and around the ground. LIV 2-1 WBA

60 - GOAL - Sterling is brought down in the box in what looks like a blatant penalty, no call from referee Michael Oliver and after 2 seconds of players pausing Sterling gets back to his feet and cuts the ball back to Henderson near the right edge of the box. Henderson steps up and hits it first time into the bottom left hand corner with a beautiful curling strike. LIV 2-1 WBA

57 - Henderson makes another nice run into the box as it appears he's been given a license to roam by Rodgers. Sterling whips it in and Henderson flicks it on to Lambert who manages to get a volley off but it goes over the bar. In fairness to Lambert, the ball was at a difficult angle. LIV 1-1 WBA

54 - GOAL - Against the run of play West Brom win a penalty. Ball is played into a dangerous position and Berahino just beats Lovren to it who clips Berahino as he wins the ball. Replays show that the foul is actually outside the box. It's Berahino's sixth goal for the season and Liverpool continue a worrying trend of 16 games with only one clean sheet. LIV 1-1 WBA

46 - Second half starts off the same way the first ended as Jordan Henderson makes a great run behind the defence but the ball is intercepted just as he was about to receive it, seconds later West Brom take the ball down the field the other way on the break but the counter attack eventuates with nothing as Berahino is unable to trouble the Liverpool defence. 45 - Half Time - LIVERPOOL 1 - 0 WBA In what was a cagey opening ten minutes, Liverpool take the lead heading into half time off the back of some Adam Lallana brilliance. Liverpool enjoyed their fair share of possession and looked the more likely to score out of the two sides but that's not to say 'The Baggies' haven't had chances in their own right. Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet seems to have taken matters into his own hands (literally) when dealing with the set piece as Lovren and Skrtel still look shaky at times, particularly when dealing with crosses through the air. Berahino has made the most of his chances but has yet to cause Mignolet any serious trouble outside of one shot that forced a smart save from the Belgian. On the Liverpool attacking front, Lambert has made some decent runs and has showed a lot of enthusiasm but signs of rust are clear for all to see. If he keeps up the enthusiasm the chances will fall for him as Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling are amongst the most creative on the pitch and throughout the league, If Lambert can't get going early in the second half, expect to see the introduction of Mario Balotelli sometime throughout the second period, especially if Liverpool are able to grab a second For the Baggies, there best bet is too keep pushing and not just rely solely on the counter attack. Liverpool's back four have been far from solid this season and have shown lapses in concentration throughout the first half so if West Brom keep pushing, the chances will be there. It's been an entertaining first half and hoping for more of the same in the second. LIV 1-0 WBA

44 - GOAL - Adam Lallana opens his account for Liverpool and its a superbly taken goal. The former Southampton man has been waiting a long time to score his first for the Reds and it came off a brilliant piece of skill. Lallana snaked it past a defender and played a lovely one two pass with Jordan Henderson who backheeled it back to Lallana who took a touch, poised himself, before blasting it past Foster into the bottom right hand corner in what was a brilliantly taken goal from a tight angle. Well deserved from a player who has tried his absolute utmost to put in good performances for his new club LIV 1-0 WBA
