[VIDEO] West Brom vs Manchester United highlights: Premier League scores, blog

MATCH RESULT:

Just when we thought Manchester United were getting into a rhythm and had started to build some momentum they appear to be back to the drawing board as they escape the Hawthorns with a 2-2 draw against West Brom.

The result was fair, and depending on how you look at it, United may count themselves lucky to have come away from the game with a point after equalising twice throughout the second half through substitute Marouane Fellaini and holding midfielder Daley Blind.

It was different clowns, same circus, for United defensively as the introduction of Phil Jones did little to stem their recent defensive woes.

United had the majority of possession but were still subject to lapses defensively and it proved to be costly once again as they set a club record for most away games without a win at six.

United could hardly be held accountable for the Baggies opening goal as Sessegnon’s shot would have beaten 95% of defences in world football but Berahino’s was a different story.

A slick pass-and-move play between Berahino and captain Chris Brunt saw Berahino slide through United’s defence with acres of space around him before advancing towards goal and neatly finishing past David De Gea.

While they seemed to be coping better with general play better, they are still very much prone to defensive lapses and it is something Van Gaal is going to have to address immediately going forward as they host a ruthless Chelsea side next weekend.

The introduction of Fellaini and Falcao seemed to spark United in the second half but for large parts of the game were unable to break down a stringent and sturdy West Brom defence.

For West Brom, they will be bitterly disappointed as they could have not have executed a more perfect game plan to beat United as the chance to register a win against United for the first time in almost 30 years was snatched from them at the death.

Despite claiming only one point from a possible six in their last two games, The Baggies will move on from this game with great confidence knowing very well that they are more than capable of playing attacking football with some of the league’s best.

Saido Berahino was on target once again and extends his season tally to six goals in eight Premier League games while Stephane Sessegnon and captain Chris Brunt were also highly impressive.

West Brom host Crystal Palace next week while United entertain Chelsea at Old Trafford as both sides will look to get back to winning ways.

FINAL SCORE:
West Brom 2
Manchester United 2

94 - West Brom have one more chance and hoist it up into the box from the halfway line but ultimately the ball is cleared from danger and the game is over. WBA 2-2 MAN UTD

90 - United pressing late and win a couple of corners but ultimately Young is unable to pick anyone out as the ball is claimed by Myhill and cleared by Lescott on respective occasions. United are still pushing it and bombarding the Baggies with crosses looking for Fellaini as a target man but West Brom have plenty of numbers back and are in complete survival mode. WBA 2-2 MAN UTD

87 - GOAL - 2-2 - Daley Blind gets his first ever goal as a United player and it couldn't have been more timely as he gets his side back into the game with about 5 minutes to play. Story of right place, right time, right shot selection but well taken nonetheless as Blind places it in the bottom left hand corner past an outstretched Myhill. WBA 2-2 MAN UTD

85 - West Brom look very eager to close this one out as they are remaining disciplined right up until the end catching United players out offside off a Rafael cross. Communication remains strong between Lescott and Dawson despite obvious and clear signs of fatigue. WBA 2-1 MAN UTD

80 - United are still pressing and win a corner and the ball is whipped in nicely and finds Rojo but his header drifts hopelessly wide with no real direction on it at all. United look a beaten side at the moment despite there being at least ten minutes to go. Not ruling out an equaliser but they have to change thins quick. Fellaini and blind both pick up yellow cards from clumsy frustration fouls. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

77 - United going backwards as West Brom pressure the man on the ball to great effect. Very similar to end of the first half, stagnant periods of play concluding in a cheap waste of possession. The West Brom goal has seen United's enthusiasm largely subdued. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

72 - Van Persie comes agonisingly close to an equaliser after hitting the left woodwork off a fantastic half volley that had West Brom keeper Myhill well beat. United aren't yet out of this game as Ashley Young comes on for Angel Di Maria who appears to be carrying a knock.

What a 'lovely' couple of goals from WBA. Absolute clinical finishing à la Villa :)

69 - Rafael finds himself in plenty of space as the baggies defenders lay off him completely basically inviting him to attack. He pushes forward towards goal and shapes to shoot before skying it over the bar and falling over int he process. Has summed up United's night for the most part. 20 minutes to go and a goal down it may not be long before we see the introduction of Falcao who is waiting on the touchline ready to come on. 65 - GOAL - It's that man again. Saido Berahino does it again. An absolutely lovely pass from Chris Brunt splits the United centre back pairing of Jones and Rojo wide apart. Berahino finds himself through on goal 35 yards and races towards United's goal before drawing De Gea of his line and tucking the ball into the bottom right hand corner. One Chance. One goal. Clinical as they come. WBA 2-1 MAN UTD

61 - Sessengnon has been lively and arguably West Brom's best player thus far and is showing no signs of letting up causing United plenty of problems at the back. His link up play with Berahino has been promising but unfortunately a lack of possesion here in the second half has limited the pair's chances. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

58 - After being bombarded for much of the second half West Brom finally get some possession. A serie sof tough decisions has angered many of the West Brom players and fans alike as many of the Baggies feel United are getting the rub of the green as far as officiating is concerned. As we reach the hour mark this game is very much in the balance. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

54 - United look a different side so far in the second half pressurising West Brom players with a much greater intensity off the ball and are pressing much more decisively when they have it. Di Maria and Januzaj causing plenty of problems for Wisdom and Pocognoli respectively with the majority of United's play coming from both wings. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

49 - Fellaini's introduction has lifted United and given them some much needed energy and spark. Fellaini almost gets in on the action again as he narrowly misses out on a nicely delivered Adnan Januzaj cross. It's been all United so far in this second half. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

46 - GOAL - Super Sub Marouane Fellaini makes an immediate impact bullying Joleon Lescott off the ball taking the cross down beautifully flicking it to his right where no defender can get it before belting it into the roof of the net past Myhill on his near post. Whatever Van Gaal said to Fellaini at half time was clearly heeded as it is easily the Belgian's best goal since arriving at United. WBA 1-1 MAN UTD

Half Time - A recurring theme throughout this season for United, much of the possession with a limited number of meaningful chances. They are missing the drive and energy as well as the creativity of captain Wayne Rooney but still have enough talent out there where his absence should not be this glaring. While they have had a few shots on goal none have seriously worried Myhill in goal although the build up play has been encouraging despite a lack of clinical finishing at the final pass. West Brom have looked the better of the two sides, especially going forward. Berahino has been lively and Sessengnon, Brunt and Morrison have been playing excellently in midfield while Lescott and Dawson have been limiting the number of chances afforded to RVP and co. United are creating chances and do have more of the possession but lack killer instinct and are not really playing with any assertiveness. Van Gaal has been seeing talking to Fellaini at multiple times throughout the game so expect to see him introduced sometime soon. At the Half - WBA 1-0 MAN UTD
