Lehmann determined to continue with rotation policy ahead of World Cup

Having secured a place in the ODI Tri-Series final with a three-wicket victory over England in Hobart on Friday evening, Darren Lehmann has confirmed his intention to continue to provide international experience to players not selected in the World Cup squad.

Upon questioning, Lehmann hinted at further changes to the Australian side to face India on Australia Day at the SCG.

“We’ll be pretty rigid with what we do once we get into the tournament, but for the moment, this gives us a chance, because we qualified for the final, to do something a bit different,” he said.

Gurinder Sandhu, Moises Henriques, Cameron White and Shaun Marsh have all been provided opportunities accordingly, yet their inclusion has not hindered World Cup preparations, something Lehmann agreed with.

“We had three guys come into the game in Hobart and they did pretty well,” he said.

The provision of such experience could well prove valuable come the tournament, especially given fitness concerns surrounding members of the squad, most notably Michael Clarke, following a strenuous stretch of matches.

Lehman outlined how, “we’ve got to manage that process”, and that “it’s pleasing we’ve got some depth in case we have some injuries”, yet he obviously holds high hopes for both the team’s fitness and performance, indicating “we want to get everyone 100 per cent fit for the final of the World Cup”.

White is a clean striker only occasionally... One ball every 4 or 5 overs. Problem is, he rarely bats that long. Shaun Marsh, Chris Lynn, Adam Voges, Travis Head, NCN...now they ARE clean strikers...and they all bat for longer periods of time.

He is good in the power play one time in 3. The other 2 he tends to be very loose and innocuous. A bit behind the best 10 quicks in Australia.

Has Cameron White blown his only chance to be part of the world cup? Bear copped a snorter from Finn before he had a chance to impress selectors. A bitter blow for the Victorian veteran as this was most likely his last chance to play in a world cup. White has never quite reached his full potential despite being one of the cleanest strikers of a cricket ball in world cricket. He has teased us all with flashes of brilliance over the years. But only flashes. Hope you get another chance Bear.

I was hoping Kane Richardson would get a match after being brought into the squad. With the form of Gurinder Sandhu and the return of Josh Hazlewood it looks like the power/play expert from South Australia is surplus to requirements. CA missed a trick by not taking a risk on Sandhu for the world cup. He has been superb in the two games he has played as back up for Hazlewood and Johnson. The most impressive thing about the bowling of the 'guru' is his miserly economy.
