Hong Kong - Happy Valley preview and tips

By Stephen Wong / Roar Guru

Happy Valley hosts Wednesday’s meeting and we have a close look at the quaddie as well as horses to watch for punters looking at Hong Kong this evening. The weather for the February 4th meeting is cool, with low visibility and clouds.

The winds are moderate from the east, becoming fresh northeasterlies.

Turf: Good (“A” Course)

Jockey Challenge
O Doleuze (Longshot)
Has a book of seven rides including Bright Star, Go Go Win and All The Best. Value at $16.

Best bets:

80-60 Class Three Handicap
Race 5, No. 4 Regency Ho Ho
Drawn off the track again but he’s finished off strongly in each of his last three runs. Look for him late.

60-40 Class Four Handicap
Race 6, No. 2 Go Go Win
Broke through for a deserved win last time. Drawn awkwardly but a solid tempo should allow him to slot in and get cover. Go close again.

80-60 Class Three Handicap
Race 7, No. 2 Choice Treasure (Best Bet)
Drops in grade after an excellent run behind Key Witness at Sha Tin. Dual course and distance winner who will get the race run to suit.

85-60 Class Three Handicap
Race 8, No. 2 Willie Invictus
Returns to Happy Valley after two ordinary runs at Sha Tin. His form around Pleasure Gains and Harbour Master reads well.

Quaddie
3,4,8 / 1,2,5 / 2,6 / 2,3,8,10.

All in all, plenty of bad luck was had - racing wide, close finishes, awkward jumps and slow speeds.

Here's how Stephen went: Race 5 - won by outsider Hella Hedge at $33 (TAB) and $194 (HK$ HK Tote) Stephen's tip: 3rd, paying $1.60 (TAB) was left racing in a position three wide and without cover throughout the race. Race 6 - won by Tom's Charm at $6.10 (TAB) and $52 (HK$ HK Tote) Stephen's tip: Go Go Win placed third, paying $3.50 (TAB) - tight finish. Race 7 - won by Hong Kong Dancer at $9 (TAB) and $76 (HK$ HK Tote) Stephen's tip (and best bet): Choice Treasure placed fourth - and began very awkwardly and must barrier trial before racing again, and was vet checked post race. Race 8 - won by Executive Mandate at $9 (TAB) and $62 (HK$ HK Tote) Stephen's tip: Willie Invictus was unplaced. Stewards noted the horse didn't settle, indicating a lack of speed in the race, and the horse was vet checked. Favourite Top Act finished last in a performance deemed unacceptable.

Really keen on Willie Invictus in the last. Hasn't been too bad at Sha Tin and gets back to his more favourable track. Just hoping they don't walk in front
