[VIDEO] Central Coast Mariners vs Brisbane Roar highlights: A-League scores, blog

By billyelliott / Roar Guru

After banking an unlikely three points last week, the Central Coast Mariners will be full of confidence when Round 17 of the A-League kicks-off in Gosford tonight. They face a Brisbane Roar side fresh from a last-start win against the embattled Jets, looking to keep in touch with the top six.

Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm (AEDT).

Phil Moss has conceded the come from behind win may not have been the prettiest but believes his side took a lot of confidence out of the result against the more fancied Adelaide United. After the win last week, Moss has implored his players to come out breathing fire against Brisbane and record back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Forced into making changes after the departure of Mitch Duke to Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse, Moss has named an extended squad, including defender Zac Anderson, midfielder Glen Trifiro and new signing, Fabio Ferreria.

Moss has spoken glowingly about Ferreria, who missed last week’s win against his former side due to the much publicised ‘gentlemen’s agreement’, and is likely to start the classy Portuguese winger.

A Brisbane win will see them jump into the top 6, however they will need the Phoenix to do them a favour against Melbourne City if they are to remain there longer than 24 hours. It’s an incredible turn-around for a side which, after sacking coach Mike Mulvey six weeks into the season, is finding form at the right time.

Frans Thijssen had warned fans that it was always going to take time for his side to get back on track and with two wins from two plus the return of championship winning goalkeeper Michael Theo and star playmaker Thomas Broich, Brisbane fans finally have something to roar about this season.

New signing Andrija Kaluderovic has been named in the Roar squad for the first time since joining the side in the January transfer window.

Kaluderovic arrived in Brisbane after spells for Red Star Belgrade, Beijing Guoan and most recently for Ljubo Milicevic’s old club FC Thun in Switzerland. Brought in to replace the misfiring Mensur Kurtishi, Thijssen has a good feeling about the Serbian international and believes he will do well for the Club.

Fans were treated to a six goal thriller the last time these sides met and with 72 goals in this fixture you can expect more tonight as both sides chase a spot in the top six. Join The Roar tonight from 7.30pm (AEDT) for live score updates and debate in our live blog.

I couldnt help but feel that Sarota was just doing nothing the entire game, why he wasnt subbed is beyond me. Its what was missing in Brisbanes middle and meant that Matty and Brattan were doing the work. It would have been good to put on Lustica to make it 11 on the park, not 10. It seems like Franz doesnt like using subs until its too late or someone is injured. Brisbane will need to step it up a notch for Victory if they want a result at home.

Chopper - Couldn't agree more, the lad looked lethargic all game and the SBS commentator picked it almost from the start ,passing the kind comment often that he,Saroto, was going to have to insert himself into the game. Obviously the coaching staff did not agree and Roar were left firing minus a cylinder in the all important "engine room". There is also a growing evidence that Solarzano is a winger playing out of position and Borello is a central striker playing out of position.Solarzano has an inbuilt desire to carry the ball at opponents,ok when out on the wing where at the most you may have to face one or two defenders but in the middle, with a retreating defence, almost impossible to "dribble" through and it was this problem that ultimately got him injured last night. Borello on the other hand is a big ,strong, robust kid, willing to run non stop for "the cause" but lack of good touch sees him cough up possession more than is healthy for his,or the team's game, but if I were a centre back I know who I would rather face up to in a game, and it would not be this restless workhorse.. Andy Harper is a schooteacher by profession and loves to wax poetic when describing the game so don't be affected by his comments which are based on a good understanding of Roget's Thesaurus,Just take his "gliding over the pitch"" as meaning "running at half pace". Frans still has much work to do,but on the plus side Donnachie is beginning to look more and more like the finished article and the Germans continue to improve after their extensive lay-offs. Brown to me is still a work in progress, he does go forward well but can on occasion be caught upfield causing problems to his mates behind him. The new man won every ball he challenged for in the air so it could be that Roar have finally found a man where the crosses from the wing backs and Broich in particular can be fruitful. However 3 points are 3 points but deep down the former Ipswich Town playmaker will want more,of that there is no doubt at all. jb

I agree with billyelliot that Sarota was missing for most of the game. Harper was effusing what a good player he is with his languid style allowing him to glide over the pitch but sorry I didn't see that he was definitely missing in action. I feel sorry for Lustica who runs his socks off and gets into the box when we're attacking. Perhaps that's part of Sarota's loan deal that he has to get game time but for the other ten players not so good when they have to constantly carry him.

A shame to the Mariners crowds coming off so sharply. The locals need to stick behind their team or we'll see more games at NSO which no-one wants.

SO that's it from Gosford. The Roar win their third in a row and they are back in the top 6, albeit perhaps only for tonight. Two penalties the difference but to be far to the Roar it is nothing less than they deserved. The Mariners? Well they really only played the opening 10 and the final 10 minutes so they if they are wondering where this one was lost, it's pretty clear - the middle 70 minutes. Brisbane keep their finals hopes alive while the Mariners see their own final hopes take another nose dive. Final score Central Coast Mariners 0 Brisbane Roar 2

Geez, the Roar pick up points but not playing well. Cannot say the Mariners were any better. Has the Asian Cup break done more harm than good in terms of a rest?

Crowd 6,021 That's a pen to Brisbane....2-0 to Brisbane with 2 penalties. This game has been atrociously boring. Brisbane have played poorly as well.

Absolutely no question about the penalty. Kalik left his foot out against the German who was in control of the ball. A little inexperience by the young man. But as Robbie Slater has said - the loss shouldn't be on his shoulders the Mariners had lost this game long before that tackle. CCM 0 2 BRI

90+1' Another penalty. This time Kalik brings down Broich. It was a rash challenge after he lost control of the ball. Kaluderovic steps up and puts it in the same place as Solorzano and Brisbane go two nil up. CCM 0 2 BRI

89' Change for the new man Kaluderovic to seal it, but he pulls his shot wide of the goal. Borrello had done all the hard work but couldn't deliver a ball to the Serbian. CCM 0 1 BRI

88' Another Mariners long ball finds it's way all the way to Theo in the Brisbane goal. Can we really be surprised by the low crowd numbers in Gosford when the Mariners are dishing this type of performance out. CCM 0 1 BRI

79' Chance for the Mariners. It was a great ball in. North misread it and Major was behind him and nearly made the Roar defender pay. He wins his side a corner. CCM 0 1 BRI
