Central Coast Mariners sack coach Phil Moss

By The Roar / Editor

The Central Coast Mariners have sacked coach Phil Moss, with Tony Walmsley to step in on an interim basis at the club.

The move comes after weeks of pressure on the club, who have endured a horror A-League season so far. The club currently sit eighth with only three wins from their 19 games, and sit ahead of the Jets and the Wanderers, who have only won one game each.

Retiring Mariners captain John Hutchinson will step into a player/coach role for the rest of the season, with the details of his coaching role yet to be finalised.

The club also said that Hutchinson would remain in a coaching position at the Mariners beyond this season.

The move is part of an ongoing club restructure.

Wait in line buddy. I want Milicic as well once Popas time is up. I give him 8-12 weeks next season if it continues like this.

Not surprised with the results and underwhelming state of affairs on the pitch ( and off it). Need to raise their game and moss sadly didn't appear to be upto it. As fir suits, not bad. Same issues as ange though.... Looked like a wombat stuffed into a suit.

As a Roar fan I hope Mike gets this job. If he has any weaknesses it's (a) that he's headstrong and has a "my way or the highway" attitude which may rub owner/current coaches the wrong way and (b) he's unproven on recruitment both at Roar and previously. If Mariners can live with "a" and compensate for "b" he's a shoe-in imo

He never looked "right" in a suit Franko. Better than Lowe though. Looks like he borrowed his fat brother's suit :) JVS with his teenage sons trainers :)

He's technical director at the Sabah Football Association, not sure he is actually coaching. El Hadji Diouf plays there ;)

My mistake Mike Mulvey is actually in a Technical Director's role in Malaysia, not a coaching role.

Mulvey is already coaching in Malaysia.

Fair cop Fadida!!!! Moss was one of the better dressed managers in the A-League. No Aloisi granted, but he was no Kenny Lowe either.

Bondy To me Moss had a few shortcomings mainly around recruitment and junior development ... tis the first time in the Mariners history we don't have two juniors making headlines ... they are their BTW just not being played nor played into the side... I hope he stays in Football and maybe his calling is an excellent assistant coach.

I know he is the current Australian number 2 to Ange... and he was number 2 to Aloisi at Heart... and Number 2 at the Drive Bys .... Love to get Milicic on the Coast ... Also Vidmar ... the history of coaching the national team and returning to club land is beyond good ... Oken is another worth considering... Out of left field there could be a very talented coach at Everton who could bring a few talented players under the partnership agreement and that would set the cat among the pigeons.. I hope he stays in the game TBH and maybe his calling is a excellent assistant coach...

I'm also surprised he lasted this long. He's looked totally out of his depth. Even his suits don't look right. Clubs like CCM an NJ, who are poor resources can't afford to hire unproven coaches, particularly when the liked of Mulvey and previously Merrick are floating around. Good coaches achieve more than the sum of the parts (see Arnold at CCM), whereas the poor ones (Osieck, Moss, Stubbins) fail to do so

If we dont financially invest and also retain our best players is there really going to be any difference. Did Hutchinson and Moss get along ?...

Mike Mulvey is the obvious choice so I imagine, now that they can't make the finals, they wanted to give themselves the edge over any other teams who may be looking for a coach.
