Eels coach sidesteps Kieran Foran signing talk

By Will Knight / Roar Guru

If Parramatta coach Brad Arthur knows Kieran Foran has committed to the Eels, he’s playing it very cool.

Speculation is rife that the Manly five-eighth is set to confirm a four-year, $4.7 million deal this week to switch to NRL rivals the Eels from next season.

Pressed by journalists over the reports on Thursday morning, Arthur had his poker face on.

“Nah, there’s nothing to tell,” said Arthur bluntly.

There’s no contract done?

“No.”

Don’t want to touch it?

“I don’t comment on recruitment unfortunately.”

Why not?

“It’s just my policy.”

Manly coach Geoff Toovey said on Wednesday that Foran hadn’t addressed the rumours with him.

“I saw Kieran today and he is the type of guy that would tell me what is going on. I am unaware of it,” Toovey said on Fox Sports’ NRL360.

The loss of Foran would be a massive blow to Manly after his halves partner and fellow rep star Daly Cherry-Evans signed a four-year deal with Gold Coast last week worth around a million a season.

Sandown will be re-signed. Depending on what happens at fullback Norman might be let go. To be honest though I don't think the recruitment and retention team know what to do as yet. Depends on how well Hoppa plays at fb and how much his contract upgrade will cost. To show how silly nrl rumours can be I heard one the other day that Alex Johnston will be in the blue and gold next year as he has been offered the fb role apparently.

The so called news about the signing came from a new 7 reporter who used to work for the Daily Telegraph as a Sports Journo there. During the change in the board a few years ago & all the said prior rumours & news in the Terrograph, he was one of the primary journo's bringing all & sundry up to date with the internal problems, & was pushing to get the new team into the election cycle. As I was a long term member of the club, my late dad being a foundation member, with myself just missing out on a board position in the 70's, I was contacted by this person after a couple of posts in the online terragraph, about my history etc. Gave him the facts of things but that was it. The so called new broom that came in was the cause of me dropping my long time membership of 38 years of both football club & leagues club, & have never set foot at the club or a game since, owing to these people who drag up muck & generally run down the club on one hand & try by some other means to destabelise it on the other. Now that this print Journa is now a face of the 7 Sydney network we can expect more of his rubbish & exclusive things regarding Parra from his inside contacts that are wanting to take control. They cannot take it that Parra as a team has a coach that the local players & others want to play for, ones that come in & do not want to leave, if these termites continue the way they have for the past 6 years in their attempts to kill off the club & take their own agenda's on high, then the future looks dim. As for Daniel Anderson & his role, last person the club should have employed at this point of time, owing to his well known desire to get a coaching role, hopefully that will happen elsewhere, at least one termite may then be gone.

If Foran does stay at Manly I have no doubt that it will get down to those eager beaver eels who just couldn't contain themselves. Welcome to the third world Kieran, this is what you can expect on a regular basis if you get in the yellow and blue

Parra fan no doubt Parramatta is in for some interesting times ahead regardless of whether they get Foran. What will the do with Norman/Sandow your thoughts I hear that Sandow is off contract in 2016 but Norman has another season ?

I am high most of the time Sir. But when your manager is shopping you around and only gets offered 85k a year to travel interstate to Manly king which is what Manly paid for DCE the first year you have to accept he was close to the bottom of the pile when he arrived.

Lol. But in seriousness eagle, the eels have denied the rumours and will continue to do so. If you want to know where the leaks see coming from look no further than the manly board. A last ditch effort to keep him and it certainly looks ugly. The only leaks from parra is one particular board member who is stirring up this rubbish about Daniel Anderson being after Arthur job and Arthur going to manly. Surprise surprise the leagues club AGM is under a month away, and certain ex board chairman currently under investigation for vote tampering wants back in. You can be assured Foran will be in the blue and gold next year. The bloke will choose his own time to put pen to paper as is his right.

DCE was nothing before he want to Manly? Are you high Sir? I saw him play here in Mackay as a school boy and also A grade local league. The kid was always destined to be a star. Where do Manly fans get off abusing the young man? He is well within his right to leave this second rate club if thinks it is what is best for himself and his family. If the 8 000 Manly fans boo him on the weekend, it just shows that the joint has no class.

I love a good generalisation planko. We are the worst fans in the NRL and are all rugby supporters anyway (whatever that means) Classic.

This is the funniest comment in years. It was Manly's licence that the Northern Eagles traded under. The Northern Eagles partnership money went to settling Norths debts under an agreement that should the partnership fail the licence went back to Manly. DCE was nothing when he arrived and so was Foran. I hope Foran does stay but no contract for either is valid till June 30. Even if they both sign they can change their minds till June 30.

I have kept a very open mind about this whole situation and whilst I don't agree with everything that DCE's management has done, I think DCE has been unfairly been made to look like the bad guy. This is Manly's fault and not his. I truly think Manly have the worst fans in the NRL and I can see them booing the young man on the weekend. I think the bears should have been given the licence instead of the Sea Eagles when the merger fell apart. Most Manly fans are Rugby supporters anyway.

All a bit of a bumbling mess from all parties involved (particularly the Manly board). Wasn't Arthur on MMM last night saying a deal was done? With the Eels media manager confirming it? Could it be they are now fearful that Foran was very annoyed with the handling of it, and might renege? No doubt he wanted to tell his teamates in person before they read it in the papers.
