Cheap Seats 66: Nice strips

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell are debating football playing-strip fashion in Episode 66 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

A bumper #AskTheCheapSeats includes superb questions on the state of Australian basketball, Manly breaking Parramatta’s Kieran Foran news, the use of Australian athletes in sports marketing campaigns, and the Cricket World Cup. Brilliant questions, and thanks to those asking.

The Cricket World Cup has finally reached the quarter-final stage, with Ryan surprised at the revelation Pakistan won’t play two games. And is Aaron Finch out of form, or just short of runs? Plus yet more Kumar Sangakkara love, and Sheffield Shield final shenanigans.

Plus, the first ‘grand final preview’ of the NRL season has been played, but why was the crowd so small for the Souths-Roosters blockbuster? Oh, and Manly are still a shambles.

Super Rugby sees the high-flying Brumbies leading the pack, while the Waratahs – and definitely the Reds – have some serious work to do.

There’s more football drug test and ASADA drama to play out yet, while the boys touch on one of the more boring Australian Grands Prix ever.

Don’t forget, you can still join the Cheap Seats Tipping League. Beating these two won’t be hard.

Get us on Twitter at @CheapSeatsPod and get your questions in for next week using the tag #AskTheCheapSeats. And stay cheap!

Did you miss a question with Finch? Out of form, short of runs, or not quite good enough? And England played ok early in the tri series, but even scoring a decent 300 at Bellerive they never looked like winning that game.

They're going to be massive, massive losses for SL. They have had some good young players come through like Thirimanne, Chandimal and Perera but they've still be relying almost completely on their veterans. They would have really hoped that those younger players would have started to take the mantle before the veterans went a bit like Smith/Starc/Faulkner have done for Australia. Will be very interesting to see if SL can remain competitive across all formats over the next few years. Mathews is going to be carrying them for a while.

On a tangentially related note, given the list of players definitely or likely to retire from Sri Lanka ODIs before the next world cup (Malinga, Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Herath, and Dilshan) is that the best group of players to go in one cycle without a world cup win?
