Match Result

So in the end an entertaining affair which the Giants have won 87 to 78. They had plenty of chances to close the game out by half time but some inaccurate kicking kept the Saints in the game.

In the second half the Saints had plenty of chances to win the game but some wasteful kicking hurt them, especially late in the game. Adam Treloar (32 disposals) and Jack Steven (27 disposals) were out standing for both their sides.

An injury scare for the Saints with Nick Riewoldt leaving the ground after injuring what appeared to be his back after Tom Bugg but a bump on from behind. The skipper didn’t return, and it was a game changing moment as the Saints were coming back into the game.

Match Preview

For St Kilda fans 2015 seems like a year written off already, and they could get a taste of what is to come against an improving Greater Western Sydney Giants today. Join us for commentary and live scores from 1:00pm (AEDT).

It’s doom and gloom from all media reports at Seaford, the team is either too young or too old, Nick Riewoldt can’t carry them forever, and Nick Dal Santo, Brendan Goddard and Lenny Hayes are all now a distant memory.

Jack Billings and Luke Dunstan have been handed the torch, and in their second year will be expected to show improvement on their first.

Jack Newnes showed what he could do in the NAB Challenge and could be the big improver of the group, if given opportunity Jack Sinclair looks a handy type, and new draft picks Hugh Goddard and Patrick McCartin will get their chance at some stage this season – if not today.

Tim Membrey has come across from the Swans to add some depth to the forward line, but didn’t get a chance to play with Riewoldt in the NAB Challenge and was starved of opportunity.

Other than that it seems this year for the Saints will be all about getting games into their younger players.

For the Giants, big things are coming in 2015. A vastly improved list with Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull gives them experience and makes them even harder to match up.

The midfield contains Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel, Toby Greene, Callan Ward, Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly – all can hurt you.

I’m also expecting Jeremy Cameron to reach new heights in 2015, the big forward signed on for an extension and with Shiel at his feet the pair will be extremely hard to stop.

With Will Hoskin-Elliot out for an extended period I expect Cam McCarthy to get some game time as well.

Prediction
The Giants will challenge for the eight this year, so this game should be a comfortable win for them.

Shane Mumford will dominate the young Saints ruckmen and we could see this blow out a little.

Giants by 35.

#ThereWillBeHaters No, it's sounds more like something out a Russian satirical comedy. Of which...Vlad the Lad Putin gets an obligatory cameo.

The first few bars of the giants song is a blatant rip off of the song "the streets of cairo", written by an American to sound like an Arabic song. It in turn was possibly borrowed from French/Algerian tunes. So best if we put it in Arabic probably, yes? Don't know where the Russians come in...

I watched the last quarter, the Saints could easily have won this one, giants were holding on for dear life at the very end.

Not many GWS fans in Melbourne, I also don't expect to many people to get out to our games much this year, shame because it was actually a good fight all game.

Lowest attendance for the round to date: 18,794. The Saints and the AFL would be disappointed with that figure.
