Swindon Town cries disloyalty as EPL clubs chase Massimo Luongo

By Constance / Roar Pro

Massimo Luongo is certainly a wanted man after his impressive season with Swindon Town and his fantastic performance during the Socceroos’ Asian Cup campaign.

The Socceroos and Ange Postecoglou took a chance on the player after seeing his great start to the season with Swindon Town, and he repaid their faith. Massimo has only gotten better as the season went on and so many offers are now surrounding the 22-year-old.

Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are just two of the many who are rumoured to be wanting the acquire the services of the player.

The fans and supporters of Swindon Town are up in arms about their star player weighing up options from different clubs. They believe he has betrayed them and his loyalty to club, along with believing he is following the money.

It certainly isn’t that way at all. Massimo Luongo deserves a move up to the English Premier League after his performances.

The third tier of English football is definitely no place for a player of his standards and the fans of Swindon Town are failing to see this. They are blinded by their frustration, but it was always going to happen.

A player of his standards would certainly leave for a club higher in the English football heirarchy, a club that can give him a chance to improve his game and win trophies.

Massimo Luongo has a bright future ahead of himself if he can make it to a bigger club like the ones that have been rumoured to want him. He more than likely will jump at the opportunity and the fans of Swindon Town should be grateful to have had his services for as long as they did.

I don't usually post comments on articles that I read, but felt compelled to do so for this one. As a Swindon fan, I can tell you this is complete garbage. There may have been a few fans complaining as to how open Luongo has been about leaving, with a number of articles in the Australian media at a time when STFC are fighting for promotion and suffering from a dip in form - but to say that Town fans are "up in arms" and "crying disloyalty" is rubbish. We are well aware that Luongo is better than League One, and that it's 99% certain he will not be at Swindon next season - it is also likely that we will receive a club record transfer fee if and when he does leave... here's hoping that he helps us into the Championship first!

I expect Rogic back in the A league very soon. Hardly been spotted since he left it.

Got injured again a couple of weeks back. No where to be seen last weekend when their Developmental Squad played a game. Celtic are keeping quiet about it.

I agree RBB. I can't remember the exact quotes, but the Swindon Town manager was talking Luongo up big time after his Asian Cup exploits in a blatant attempt to talk up his value. Average article....

Jedinak and Luongo in an EPL midfield partnership, nice. He better get game time... On another note, I think Rogic is back...?

You really think Swindon fans think like this. The author has plucked the feeling of fans straight from where the sun doesn't shine. He doesn't know the feeling of every fan from Swindon. They are knowledgeable fans, they know they cant keep him when the big clubs come after him. Its not like he is just leaving them either, I am sure the club will get a hefty fee from the transfer and Swindon fans can take pride in one of their players, that they developed entering the big leagues. They can also use that money from the transfer to help build their club. It is the natural order of things. The author needs to ask Swindon fans to know that.

How has this not been on the cards since the Asian Cup. I'm surprised Swindon Town can be so naive to think that the star of a confederation's championship would want to stay in the third tier league when the opportunity to play in the Premier League come knocking.
