Bournemouth's Premier League fairytale almost complete

By The Roar / Editor

The fans are celebrating in Bournemouth, and rightly so. Their side has, for the first in club history, all but secured promotion to the Premier League.

Scenes of complete elation broke out in the stands, clubrooms, and flooded onto the pitch, following The Cherries’ 3-0 win against Bolton on Monday, putting them three points clear of Middlesbrough with just one match remaining.

Despite the chance of Middlesbrough levelling Bournemouth on points on the season’s final matchday, The Cherries also have a +19 goal difference on The Boro, meaning unprecedented wins and losses would need to occur to spoil the party.

Speaking following the match, club manager Eddie Howe stated:

“I’m an eternal pessimist but it would take some blow up from this position not to make it. We have one more game and we want to finish on a high.

“This club was heading nowhere, it was heading out of business and to make such a quick turnaround is impressive.

“You don’t achieve anything on your own. It has taken a monumental effort from the players and coaching staff.”

The scenes from the clubrooms post-match clearly display how much this promotion means to everyone invested in the club.

Great stuff, always have had a soft spot for them. Never thought that the club would access the premier league in my lifetime. The mix of English retirees with European students gives the place a very unique atmosphere. Don't think they have the same rivalry with Southampton than Pompey have but am sure they can work on it.

With sponsors, TV rights, and endorsements it is worth that and potentially more. The Championship playoff - between 3rd and 6th - is reported to be the worlds richest match because of the money won by the team that gets promoted.

Not sure of the accuracy of the figures but with the new tv deal expected to be worth $13B even the smallest team could be making $50M a season in TV revenue alone. Add additional sponsorship and gate receipts (albeit with an 11.7k stadium), the increase in their revenue will be astronomical.
