[VIDEO] Carlton Blues vs Brisbane Lions highlights: AFL live scores, blog

By Graham Smith / Roar Guru

Can the Carlton Blues avert a club crisis and notch a desperately needed win, or will the Brisbane Lions give their loyal Melbourne supporters something to cheer about? Join The Roar for live scores from 3:20pm to find out.

The Blues at least have one win on the board this year compared to the Lions’ naught. Expectations have been too high at Carlton and surely the reality of finishing at the lower end of the ladder has set in by now.

A once-mighty club is in trouble, illustrated by the need to offer two for one tickets to members to entice them to come on Mother’s Day. Back in the ’90s this would be unthinkable.

It’s time for action. The pressure is off after coach Mick Malthouse’s milestone game last week and the home advantage should be enough for the Blues to record a win.

Aiding them is the fact the Lions are imploding too. Discipline seems to be an issue, with coach Justin Leppitsch in a tangle with rookie Zac O’Brien this week over the player showing a lack of respect.

In the preseason the Lions were thought to be knocking on the door of the eight, but a disappointing start to the season sees them vying for the wooden spoon.

One area they do have advantage is in the ruck. Stefan Martin has been good since coming from the Demons and is one who leads by example.

At the selection table the Blues received a boost by the inclusion of Dale Thomas together with the promising Troy Menzel. Out goes Lachie Henderson with a hamstring. For the Lions Matthew Leuenberger is back to offset the injured Brent Staker.

Last time around at Etihad in 2012 the Blues won by 36 points. I don’t see them winning by as much Sunday.

Prediction
The Blues by 21 points. Should win in Melbourne against the Lions, but then again footy is a funny game!

Someone needs to tell leppitsch they can still make the finals given they got some winnable games coming up Brisbane's road ahead 1 Port adelaide if it's a low scoring game 2 essendon winnable 3 St kilda. A very winnable game 4 Gws. winnable 5 Doggies. Winnable 6 Adelaide 50/50 7 Fremantle impossible but you never know 8 Sydney same as the freo game At their best they can win 5 out of 8 But at their worst they could lose them all If they can win 5 out of those 8 games then they could be 6-8 which would be a very good recovery and can still make the finals So all brisbane fans just need to get behind their team for next week's game because anything is possible

Very disappointed with the effort especially after halftime. Specifically the most noticeable were the costly turnovers and lack of run and poor second efforts. Honorable mention to Bell Blues BOG. Judd was not bad and Casboult did well. Murphy tried to lift the Blues but not too much else to speak of tonight.

Sorry Jack. These players have fat pay packets and can't be bothered getting their hair messed up. If Malthouse goes then at least 10 of those on the paddock must also go with him. They are an absolute mess. Can't kick, can't run, don't try and don't care. Play the kids, if they have what it takes, keep them and begin shedding the rest.

That's a cop out Jack. The players need to take responsibility for their pathetic efforts.

FULL TIME BRISBANE LIONS 12.12.84 def CARLTON BLUES 11.9.75 Major goals: LIONS : McStay 4 Green 3 BLUES Casboult 4 Murphy 2 Bell 2. If you are Blues fan you would have been wise to visit your mother today as this result is horrendous for the club. Well done Brisbane Lions , they have come to town held on in the first half then made their move in the third qtr and finally ran out winners by 9 points. After a bad week this win shows the true character of the Lions. Stefan Martin was my best today. He rucked solo all day and when the game was to be won he stood up and got the ball moving forward against the Blues who were winning clearances. Redden and Rockliff also provided great leadership around the ground and they thoroughly deserve their first four points. The Blues fell away in the third quarter and possibly thought they had control. Bell and Gibbs tried hard and Casboult had his best kicking game for a long time getting four majors. The heat will be really turned up on the BLUES this week. Overall neither side are going to trouble the finals this year, but at least the Lions showed a bit of desire and should be proud of their performance.

Malthouse is a good coach. His record speaks for itself. His team has a pathetic culture.
