Manly sign Nate Myles on three-year deal

By News / Wire

Manly have confirmed they have signed Gold Coast captain Nate Myles on a three-year NRL deal from 2016.

The Sea Eagles won the race for the veteran Test back-rower’s services ahead of rival suitor Penrith after offering what is believed to be a $1.5 million deal.

Queensland Origin forward Myles – 30 in June – began talking with other clubs after the Titans opted not to activate a one-year option on his current contract worth more than $500,000.

“I have been extremely humbled by this overall experience and I would like to thank all the clubs that showed interest in having me join them,” Myles said in a Manly statement.

“The decision to leave our home (Gold Coast) was difficult, however Manly is a beautiful part of the world which provides both (wife) Tessa and I the opportunity to continue to develop our careers, relationship and family.

“An important factor in my decision was to play alongside champion players like Jamie Lyon and co who have created a winning culture within the northern beaches club.

“I will now focus on my role as captain of the Gold Coast Titans to ensure my final year in Titans colours is a successful one.”

Manly had hoped to bolster their forward depth after the loss of Glenn Stewart, Anthony Watmough and Brent Kite to rival clubs and veteran Jason King’s retirement.

“His experience and leadership skills in the front and back-rows will be a valuable asset to some of our talented young forwards including Jake Trbojevic, Josh Starling and Blake Leary to name a few,” Manly coach Geoff Toovey said.

“We are very much looking forward to having Nate join our club next season.”

With regards to all the dramas surrounding Brookvale Oval's condition with the local council, worst case scenario the club may have to move games in future.Perhaps relocation to the Gold Coast??? No just kidding. Myles made the move primarily to support his wife ,that to me is the makings of a man.

That is big wedge for a bloke whose best football is well behind him. I thought he may have gone to the Pennies for a shot at a premiership.

Ferret I agree with you,but I can't help wonder if this is more about luring DCE into gymnastics -- Comment from The Roar's iPhone app.

I think Nate's best days are behind him. He lifts for SoO but week-to-week he's a bit of a plodder these days.

I hope I too am never subjected to the horrible dilemma of having to choose between living on the Gold Coast or living at Manly.
