Match result:

Gold Coast Titans 28
Canterbury Bulldogs 14

The Bulldogs started strong, opening with a try to Curtis Rona. Just four minutes later, Gordon charged down a Reynolds kick which saw Roberts add the first points for the Titans.

It was penalties and errors galore for both teams, the trend broke when the Bulldogs pressured the Titans’ line with a Kasiano try.

Play soon continued with the see-saw back on again. Aidan Sezer made a spectacular play kicking a 40-20 with seconds on the clock. The siren went and on the last play Mortimer kicked it high for Gordon who found his way over the line to level the scores at the break.

The second-half began and twelve minutes in Brad Tighe struck after a controversial set of hands involving a possible forward pass saw him muscle his way over.

Tighe was denied another try just four minutes later as Moses Mbye came racing down the field for a try-saving tackle.

Josh Hoffman extended the Titans’ lead after putting down a Mortimer bomb.

Ryan James was the next to be denied with a double movement. The Bulldogs soon striking back through Curtis Rona who extended over the line and narrowed the margin to 8 points.

With the end in sight and the result still very much close, Roberts helped the Titans to a win scoring in the corner.

The Bulldogs couldn’t come up with the play to trump the Titans as the Gold Coast went away with the two points.

Match preview:

The depleted Canterbury Bulldogs travel north to do battle with the Gold Coast Titans at Robina Stadium. Join The Roar from 3:50pm (AEST) for live coverage.

The Titans last week enjoyed a 27-20 win over the Tigers, while the Bulldogs won their second straight match, defeating the Dragons 29-16.

For the Titans, Anthony Don could be the difference. Coming up against Corey Thompson on the wing he will look to bag more tries for the Titans.

Kane Elgey misses out due to a syndesmosis strain, seeing Daniel Mortimer move to halfback, Kierran Moseley shift to hooker and Matt Robinson come on to the bench. Eddy Pettybourne replaces Nate Myles in the front row, Mark Ioane replaces David Taylor on the bench, and Matthew White rounds out the Gold Coast interchange.

If Pettybourne can get the Titans forwards fired up and running their hardest it could spell trouble for Des Hasler’s team.

Hard hit by State of Origin selections, the Bulldogs will be without key players James Graham, Tony Williams, Trent Hodkinson, Brett Morris, Josh Morris, Josh Jackson and David Klemmer.

Sam Perrett shifts to fullback in place of Brett Morris, with Corey Thompson coming onto the wing and Chase Stanley being named in the centres as a result of Josh Morris’ New South Wales selection.

Josh Reynolds moves from the bench to replace Trent Hodkinson in the halves, Greg Eastwood moves into the back-row as Lloyd Perrett returns from concussion at lock. Sam Kasiano replaces James Graham in the front-row with Danny Fualalo and Antonio Kaufusi named on the bench. Herman Ese’ese has been brought back to the club after being released, coming onto the bench where he is joined by Tyrone Phillips and Jacob Loko.

Is the Bulldogs’ bench good enough to stop the wrath of the Titans? Canterbury have a well-rounded starting 13 but their young bench will struggle to keep up with the rest of the team. Expect Aiden Tolman to play another full 80 minutes.

In 11 games played between the Titans and Bulldogs, the Titans have won six matches with the Bulldogs winning five. Last time the two met, in Round 26, 2014, the Titans beat the Bulldogs in golden point extra-time 19-18.

Prediction
Bulldogs by 10.

For how long is James Roberts going to be kept out of the NSW line-up by the likes of Hopoate? The bloke is the game's most electrifying runner, an excitement machine. Watching sport should be about fun and excitement, shouldn't it?

Yeah, Moses is lightning fast and no doubt will be on some significant coin for his next contract. I wonder if centre (playing in a similar style to Jamie Lyon) isn't actually his best position, but no way would he (or anyone else sane) give up the money that's on offer for halves these days.

How fast is Moses M.? First he runs down Kevvie G....then chases and catches the other greyhound Tighe..you could play him any position on the field..his value is going to skyrocket..but I'd pay it

Some thoughts.. Bulldogs - Sam Perrett should have his passing license revoked. - Josh Reynolds wasn't good, several poor kicks, and tried to force an offload that simply wasn't there around the 65 min mark that blew a lot of good work in making a break. - I sometimes wonder if Hasler makes interchanges reactively, Tolman was on for something like 68 consecutive minutes and looked a bit tired around 55, could've given him a stint earlier in the second half and brought him back at the end. - The right edge was barely functional, can't think of a single good thing from Thompson or Stanley all game. Titans - Shame for their fans that they're losing Sezer next year. - Mead was fantastic at fullback, I'd argue clearly better than Hoffman. - Gordon was also very good, but a lot of it was taking advantage of Thompson being poor under the high ball.

James Roberts is a superstar, he should play Origin. I've never rated Mortimer but today he had one of his best games, especially in defense when the game was on the line. Great game to watch as well so well done to both teams.

Reynolds single handed lost the game for the bulldogs as he headed his side worst peformance of the year.Today Reynolds was playing for a top grade spot with 5 top players on origin duties.

I'm not going to high five too much about what a legend Roberts is. Very good player but he clearly called Lafai a word that rhymes with maggot in their little stoush.

Oh well. That was a pretty entertaining game. Both sides focused on attack, plenty of line breaks and long runs.
