Ennis expected to join NSW in camp

By Matt Encarnacion / Wire

Cronulla hooker Michael Ennis is expected to fly to Coffs Harbour and join the NSW camp on Thursday morning after failing in a bid to overturn a high tackle charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

A loophole in the judicial system means Ennis would’ve been available for the State of Origin decider no matter the outcome of the hearing.

But his one-game suspension now gives incumbent rake Robbie Farah more time to recover after his emergency hand surgery on Tuesday night.

Had Ennis been found not guilty and be cleared to line up for the Sharks against Manly on Sunday, NSW officials would have been pressured to make an early call on Farah.

However now the Blues deputy – who re-united with the rest of his Blues teammates late on Wednesday night – will be given as much time as possible to assess whether he can play through the pain.

Asked what the one-game ban meant for his Origin chances, Ennis said: ” “At the moment my focus (on Wednesday night) was all about Cronulla and trying to be available to play there at Brookvale on Sunday.

“It’s been a disappointing start to the year and now we’re starting to find some form so just really disappointed with the outcome to be honest.”

A three-man panel of Don McKinnon, Chris McKenna and Bronson Harrison took just six minutes to uphold the grade-one charge on Ennis, who argued that his pectoral made first point of contact with North Queensland winger Matthew Wright’s shoulder and the resulting whiplash caused Ennis’ bicep to come into contact with Wright’s face.

“I strongly believe there was nothing else I could have done in this situation. I make over 40 tackles a game (and) 90 per cent of these would be that style of tackle I make,” Ennis said.

However NRL prosecutor Peter McGrath disagreed, claiming it was clear on the footage that the first point of contact was with the bicep.

“In attempting to make a legitimate tackle, he has allowed the first point of contact to player Wright’s head,” McGrath explained.

“There certainly is no intention, but he has effected a base careless tackle without a care of duty.”

Meanwhile, St George-Illawarra forward Will Matthews also copped a one-game ban after his grade-one dangerous throw charge on Anthony Watmough was upheld at the judiciary.

He will miss this Saturday’s clash against the Cowboys.

KillaKanga I notice you have used the word "mommy". From this I can only assume this is a) a spelling mistake or b) you are an American. From your apparent lack of knowledge of rugby league and the fact that you possibly couldn't make a spelling mistake when you're giving someone a lesson in grammar, I can only assume you're an American. I appreciate the effort you have gone to, to correct my terrible grammar skills, however I still stand by my original comment. You sir are a grub.

absolutely loved that. "You've" got to have a sense of humour on this thread. Paul "shouldn't" have used both thumbs on his mobile phone, that's what keyboards are for. Grammar nazis get very frustrated with predictive text causing some of the problems, not just the education system. If you're switched off and don't look at what predictive text does to "your" intended words, "you'll" end up in big trouble. The upshot is being able to use the automated changes as a defence in a libel (i.e. the written word - slander is the spoken word) case.

Let him train, let him play. We started it all back in the old days so it's our fault. Smaller playing pool from the smaller population makes us the innovators e.g. Toni Carroll/TBA, Lote Turiri/TBA, Alfie Langer/Origin's first FIFO player. Not sure who is Qlds best asset, Farah or Ennis. Farah goes for the big hero plays like his 40/20 kick attempt in game 1, while Ennis is just a loose cannon subject to severe stuff ups. Just waiting for Ennis to come out in the media and state he thinks he's a better player than Cameron Smith. Bring on Carl Klemmer!!!!

Turn it up, why do RL fans always have to be 'NARKEY' and be like you 'KillaKanga'? Is your superiority of the English language make you better or more superior in any way? Be more companionate and don't (or DO NOT) try and be an English teacher on the ROAR, we are all the same irrespective of how we express ourselves!

Paul I deduce from the rudimentary grammar mistake that you have are either very young or suffer from a learning disability , I tend to think the former is correct and as such I also contend that your mommy doesn't know you are using the computer. It is unnecessary for young children like yourself to go through life without an adequate grasp of good grammar. I have decided to help you become a better communicator and in doing so , I will place the words you are having grammatical difficulty with in parenthesis . O.K. now , let's get started . "Your" is a second person possessive adjective, used to describe something as belonging to you. "Your" is always followed by a noun or gerund. Whereas "You're" is the contraction of "you are" and is often followed by the present participle . Some examples of use can be seen below.......... It would be distasteful to say "You're" an illiterate , so I will refrain from such an utterance. "Your" grasp of grammar is atrocious . See the difference ? I recommend further study to avoid basic grammatical errors in "your" future endeavours . You can always return when you have learned the difference and as always , ask "your" parent or a suitable adult before using the computer. N.B. If "you're" confused by any of the big words I have used and "you are" (un-contracted "you're" ...see "you're" learning already and isn't learning fun ?) curious as to their meaning all you need to do is consult a handy copy of a thesaurus ...oops , silly me , Bogons don't know what a thesaurus is . Handy hint ...it is NOT featured in Jurassic World , instead look for it in a library...you know , the building that has all the books in it , I'm sure you've (that is entirely different word to learn) walked past one or two. Have a nice day and remember , learning need not be a chore so have fun while you do it .

Must be some good ganja....... I just think if a player has been suspended from NRL action for foul play then the last thing they should be getting is a reward of partaking in a rep camp. Especially in this case. Ennis should be made to sit out until the completion on this round.
