Bernard Tomic arrested in Miami after noise complaint

By The Roar / Editor

Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has found himself in trouble with the law again overnight after resisting arrest from Miami police.

The young Aussie was told to turn the noise down in his penthouse suite during a party, but refused to comply. Tomic then turned “somewhat aggressive and belligerent” towards officers, who asked him to leave the hotel.

He refused.

He was arrested for resisting arrest without violence and trespassing. Miami police have said the star could face jail time as a result of the offences, and will definitely have to face court.

Tomic found himself at a jail on the morning July 15. Police said a report that Tomic appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

“Miami Beach is a unique town. People want to come here but sometimes people drink a little bit too much and make bad decisions,” Miami Detective Vivian Thayer said.

“They’re both misdemeanours, and unfortunately he will have to come back at a later date to deal with that in the court system,” she said.

“At that point, it’ll be either up to him or his attorney to come before a judge.”

The police report said that Tomic had argued with security guards and police.

“Both witnesses, who are also the hotel security guards for the W Hotel, stated that they made contact with def (the defendant, Tomic) three times in his penthouse room number 15 reference several complaints from the neighbours about loud noise and music coming from def’s roms.”

“Witnesses stated that the def closed the door on the security officers and refused to lower the noise and music all three occasions.

“Def pointed his finger aggressively towards the hotel security officers and continued to play loud music. The security guards called police in order to evict and trespass warn def. Officers Gutierrez responded to the room in an attempt to advise the def that he was being evicted.”

“Hotel security, who are authorised agents of the hotel were also on scene and while officers were present they told the def that he was being evicted and issued a trespass warning.”

“Def was advised several times that if he did not pack his belongings and leave the premises he would be arrested for trespassing. Remaining guests in the room left and the def wilfully remained in the room refusing to comply.

“Def was verbally warned again that he was being evicted and was no longer allowed to be in the hotel. Def once again verbally and physically refused to comply with officer commands. Def was arrested and transported TGK.”

Tomic has come face to face with the law before, being arrested for speeding in his Ferrari twice in 2013. He lost his license, which incensed the 22-year-old Aussie who said it was his transport to training at the time.

This incident also follows a recent public spat with Tennis Australia and Pat Rafter. The pair have traded barbs over the past few weeks, and Rafter weighed in on radio again this morning.

Tomic is currently ranked at 25th in the world.

“It looks like overnight he’s probably hit rock bottom,” Rafter said on 2GB radio station this morning.

“Hopefully when people hit rock bottom, they can turn things around.”

Actually preferred the statement by Steve Healy. Mature and true. At least in this case he owned up to his indiscretion and did not blame TA. He has many faults and obviously his father has a great influence as per Jelena. I would think support (not monetary) and non confrontational comments would be a better way. Most people commenting would probably treat a murderer better than they speak of Bernard. It is a sport for goodness sake and the guy needs help.

Let's get this straight!!! Two week ago this NOB was complaining that he is treated unfairly, having had to pay for the hire of tennis balls and courts. Last night he gets kicked out of a hotel room that costs $10K per night. Am I missing something here?

Wish people would stop going to Pat for comment on Tomic. Surely there is someone else at TA like a PR officer who instead of showing there dislike for the person could actually show some unbiased comment. Yes Tomic has an unrealistic view of his importance but if it was anyone else there would be a more reasonable comment made.

and any small amount of support he had left after the TA fiasco has gone out the window. Good luck and good riddance.

Was it the sound sound of this whining that caused the disturbance? :)

I think the Tomic family should forget about pressing legal action against TA and just concentrate on getting Bernards life back on track, because ATM, it is starting to spiral out of control.
