Match Result:

NORTH MELBOURNE 16.14.110 def BRISBANE LIONS 5.8.38

It was celebration night at the Gabba tonight with “Boomer” Harvey playing his 400th game of AFL alongside Brisbane’s Jed Adcock who played game number 200.

Harvey started with the first disposal of the game and North quickly took control. Ben Jacobs was assigned Tom Rockliff this week.

>>MATCH REPORT: North tears apart Lions in Boomer’s 400th

Lewis Taylor was poor with 2 early turnovers resulting in goals.

North’s forward line was in good form early with Turner, Petrie and Brown the best.

Brisbane were much more desperate in the 2nd quarter resulting in a 3 to 2 goal term.

Much of the steam went out of it in the third term as Brisbane only managed a point and North took a 35 point lead to the break.

Brisbane failed to score a goal from the 13 min mark in the 2nd term until just before the end of the game. North finished with a 7-goal final term.

A great result in the finish and North are really starting to build momentum and knocking on the finals door.

Drew Petrie was the best with a great presence up forward. Boomer Harvey played a terrific 400th , probably the best by anyone in history. Goldstein was great again and Jacobs did another great shutdown job on Rockliff (16 disposals).

Brisbane’s best were Robinson, Redden and Martin tried hard against Goldstein.

North have the bye next week in playing Carlton and should continue to build whilst Brisbane face another tough trip to Geelong.

Overall it was Boomer Harvey’s night. He played a great game, 27 disposals and 2 goals, his team won comfortably and there should be no reason for him not to play on next year.

It is all about Brent Harvey when the Brisbane Lions take on the North Melbourne Kangaroos at the Gabba on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:00pm AEST.

‘Boomer’ Harvey plays his 400th league game in Round 17, and in doing so becomes only the fourth player in history to achieve this milestone.

It is a magnificent achievement and one which all North fans should celebrate. At the age of 37 he is still ranked as one of North’s best and he will be out to prove he can go on and play more games next year.

On the team front, these are the sort of games that North drop. They are two points outside the eight and need to continue to string wins together. However, too often North let themselves down and consistently go missing in games.

Last year in Round 15 Brisbane won at the Gabba by 4 points, and I have a sneaky suspicion that this year will be just as close.

North play their best when they are hard at the ball and not looking at playing unaccountable footy. To this end they are lead by Andrew Swallow and Jack Ziebell. Ziebell was terrific last week going forward in the last quarter and kicking goals to close out the game.

Speaking of terrific, ruckman Todd Goldstein was unbelievable. He has to be in the top three for winning this year’s Brownlow and last week totally dominated the game. He won’t have it all his own way against Brisbane as their best contributor this year has also been in the ruck in Stefan Martin. However, Goldstein is in a rich vein of form and will get enough of it to determine the outcome of the game.

Dayne Beams has been one shining light for his new club in 2015. He now has a bung shoulder as he continues to carry the Brisbane midfield and will give North something to counter.

North have included a good trio of players for this clash, bringing in Drew Petrie, Lindsay Thomas and Luke McDonald. This should see them get their nose in front by games end.

Brisbane has been terrible in most areas of the game this season and will be hoping to turnaround last week’s dismal effort against Melbourne with a strong performance in front of a home crowd.

Prediction:
North to sneak in after giving their fans another coronary.

North by 4 points.

Will North maintain their charge up the ladder or will their inconsistent form and Brisbane’s home crowd advantage ruin Brent Harvey’s celebratory night?

So glad I opted for the weekend at Stradbroke rather than watching this farce. Some execrable football on display this weekend.

3 Quarter Time North 9.10.64 lead Brisbane 4.5.29 Multiple Goals North Petrie 4 Brisbane Bewick 2 North doing it comfortably and should leave the Gabba with the 4 points. Drew Petrie staring down 3 votes has 4 goals.Whilst I thought Mitch Robinson started to work into the game and do well for Brisbane. North should be celebrating Boomer's game in style by the end.
