The Greater Sydney Rams take on the NSW Country Eagles in a NSW derby in the first round of the National Rugby Championship, with both teams keen to get off to a good start.

The Eagles were one of the better teams in the competition last year, along with Perth Spirit and Melbourne Rising, but couldn’t make a dent in the finals series.
On the other side of things the Rams struggled at times, but showed plenty of promise, resulting in contracts for some of their better players.
Unfortunately for them, one of their poster boys in Benn Robinson is involved in the World XV this weekend, so will be absent. Jed Holloway, one of their best from 2015, won’t be playing either.
Waratahs hooker Hugh Roach will take over as co-captain alongside flyhalf Jai Ayoub.
They will take on a fairly strong looking NSW Country side who will be bolstered by Sam Carter’s return, before the big lock flies off to play against the USA for the Wallabies.
Jono Lance will also be looking to make a strong showing ahead of his move to the Force from a couple of years at the Waratahs. He didn’t play nearly as much Super Rugby in a blue jersey as he would have hoped, and will be looking to make for it in the flyhalf position for the Eagles.

Oh man, Rams scored more tries but dropped 15 conversion points. Jono Lance made all 12 conversation points.
